What's new

Hunger Games

She was excellent in the two movies I've seen her in, Brokeback Mountain and The Devil Wears Prada. She was also nominated for an Academy Award for Rachel Getting Married. She is a very good actress and from the trailer, looks like excellent in TDKR.

And yes, believe it or not, I'm straight.

I don't believe it.

F if she can act as long as it is not horribly terrible. She is smoking hot and will be in skin tight leather.

I don't read story books but did these on tape for my wife. They were aweful. Well, the first was ok but the 2nd and 3rd were predictible and dragged on and on. I have no desire to see the movie.

I did appreciate the way Suzanne Collins built Katniss' character throughout the first book by having her constantly going back and forth over Peeta and everything else.

Can anyone answer me these questions?

-Why can't the people that live in the districts just move to the Capitol where there is plenty of food? Are they held there because of their race or religion?

-They people in the district act like they have never seen food before. The main girl freaks out over a crumble of bread. Yet she is curvy and everyone looks healthy, even all the guys are all ripped and sexy looking. Makes no sense.

-The Capitol city is far more advanced in technology then our current time. So they are clearly smart people. Yet they see it fine to keep people in camps and "hungry" living like dogs, as well as watching children kill each other. Not only that but the cheer it on like the Super Bowl.

-Imagination and creativity in stories is great. But make the story consistent and believable under the setting its portrayed in.

-Also I agree its a rip off of Running Man.

- The Capitol is like an extremely wealthy neighborhood. Only those with money or those that are born into it live there. All of the other districts are poor. They are prison-like(Electrified fence to "Protect" the citizens, i.e. keep them in, force them to work).

- Food: One of the main things that disappointed me was that they did not explain how that works. The main character, Katniss and Gale have it better off than others because they sneak out and have taught themselves to hunt. But even so, they can only hunt/trap small things, as they have to keep it hidden and sell it to those they trust(The scene where Katniss is getting some soup, that is a "Black Market."). Gale had his name in so many times because of Tesserae. Tessarae is the option to submit more tickets in the chance of getting into the hunger games, but in return, every month the capitol supplies the people who signed up for tessarae with grain and oil. You are allowed to sign up for one tessarae per family member. Food, especially pastries and bread is quite expensive in comparison to what they make, so it is a luxury.

- This is more of a statement, but I will elaborate. As noted in the beginning, District 13 was completely demolished because of the districts rebelling. As punishment, all of the other districts are forced to live the way they do(Which can also tie in to question #2), and once a year, one male, one female are forced to fight against the others to the death, and there is nothing the districts can do about it, because the Capitol is advanced in every way. This is why President Snow is extremely upset with Katniss, and why Haymitch was telling her to act like the love-drunk crazy girl. She defied the Capitol, and now District 11(due to the death of Rue) is starting a rebellion.

- The story was quite consistent, even having left certain things out. There were a few minor changes that annoyed me; such as Katniss finding/giving the Mocking Jay pin to Primrose. The pin was given to her by the daughter of the Mayor of District 12. They were somewhat-friends because one of the people Katniss and Gale would sell their hunting game to was the Mayor. She gave it to her for good luck. Although I understand why they changed it, and it still worked. Also, at the end of the movie, those dog-mutants disappointed me. They were more werewolf-ish in the book, stance-wise. They stood up. The biggest thing was these "Muttations" each had the eyes of one dead Tribute. Katniss sees this, especially Rue's eyes staring into her and the beasts are trying to kill them and it adds to the "shudder" factor.

- People need to quit with this originality s***. Nothing is original anymore. Every new book, song, movie, consumer product, etc is derived in some way or another from something that has already been created. Everyone expects so much out of movies nowadays. People need to sit back, get lost in the world presented to you and enjoy the ride. I understand there are terrible movies, but nowadays people don't even give some a second look just by reading a critic's review. I, for one, make it a point to watch every movie that critics bash on. 99% of the time they're fantastic.

Glad to answer any other questions.

Why does the movie suck ***?

I watched the movie last night. I was impressed with the main actress (Jennifer Lawrence) and her strong female character, overall atmosphere, and supporting cast of adults. However the action scenes were barely tolerable because of exaggerated camera movements and I did not understand the concept of alliances where none of the children hinted they were going to stab each other in the back (because only one person is supposed to live). The sad scenes were also very cheesy. I also did not care about the other contestants from other districts and were not sure what they represented. I do understand that it is geared towards tweens and children so they did the best they could considering how dark the actual plot is. The main character also fails to be a badass when she has such good archery skills. I heard the director wasn't known for action so I guess i'll lay off a bit.

"Also, at the end of the movie, those dog-mutants disappointed me" CGI was terrible, they almost looked cute. I will mention that I did not read the book, but I had my brother fill me in on the gaps.

Name the last movie Anne Hathaway was in that was good?

Name the last performance she gave that wasn't annoying as hell?

Game, set, match, checkmate, Beantown.

False.

I remember for months and months folks like you ranted about Nolan's choice to play Batman.... He's done fantastic.

For months and months, folks like you ranted about Nolan's choice to play Joker...

It ended up being one of the best villains ever.

For all you know Hathaway has a minor role (like Tom Cruises' wife and pig face). Maybe a huge role? Who knows? If there's one thing you should have learned by now it's to NOT doubt Nolan.

He's the MJ of directors. Hathaway definitely wouldn't have been my choice. But Nolan knows a lot more about movies than any of us. The dude makes chicken soup of out chicken ****. He knows what he's doing...

The ipad is a comercially successful version of products that existed before. Not an Earth shattering innovation at all. Apple makes previously undesirable things desirable, they don't invent ****!
