- The Capitol is like an extremely wealthy neighborhood. Only those with money or those that are born into it live there. All of the other districts are poor. They are prison-like(Electrified fence to "Protect" the citizens, i.e. keep them in, force them to work).
- Food: One of the main things that disappointed me was that they did not explain how that works. The main character, Katniss and Gale have it better off than others because they sneak out and have taught themselves to hunt. But even so, they can only hunt/trap small things, as they have to keep it hidden and sell it to those they trust(The scene where Katniss is getting some soup, that is a "Black Market."). Gale had his name in so many times because of Tesserae. Tessarae is the option to submit more tickets in the chance of getting into the hunger games, but in return, every month the capitol supplies the people who signed up for tessarae with grain and oil. You are allowed to sign up for one tessarae per family member. Food, especially pastries and bread is quite expensive in comparison to what they make, so it is a luxury.
- This is more of a statement, but I will elaborate. As noted in the beginning, District 13 was completely demolished because of the districts rebelling. As punishment, all of the other districts are forced to live the way they do(Which can also tie in to question #2), and once a year, one male, one female are forced to fight against the others to the death, and there is nothing the districts can do about it, because the Capitol is advanced in every way. This is why President Snow is extremely upset with Katniss, and why Haymitch was telling her to act like the love-drunk crazy girl. She defied the Capitol, and now District 11(due to the death of Rue) is starting a rebellion.
- The story was quite consistent, even having left certain things out. There were a few minor changes that annoyed me; such as Katniss finding/giving the Mocking Jay pin to Primrose. The pin was given to her by the daughter of the Mayor of District 12. They were somewhat-friends because one of the people Katniss and Gale would sell their hunting game to was the Mayor. She gave it to her for good luck. Although I understand why they changed it, and it still worked. Also, at the end of the movie, those dog-mutants disappointed me. They were more werewolf-ish in the book, stance-wise. They stood up. The biggest thing was these "Muttations" each had the eyes of one dead Tribute. Katniss sees this, especially Rue's eyes staring into her and the beasts are trying to kill them and it adds to the "shudder" factor.
- People need to quit with this originality s***. Nothing is original anymore. Every new book, song, movie, consumer product, etc is derived in some way or another from something that has already been created. Everyone expects so much out of movies nowadays. People need to sit back, get lost in the world presented to you and enjoy the ride. I understand there are terrible movies, but nowadays people don't even give some a second look just by reading a critic's review. I, for one, make it a point to watch every movie that critics bash on. 99% of the time they're fantastic.
Glad to answer any other questions.
