Well, I guess it's settled then. Hang him.
Trout is being level-headed and nicely witty here.
There's still a lot we don't know. This case needs a trial, with a jury. All the questions need to be asked, and answered, in a court.
Pretty disappointing seeing supposedly responsible, "leaders of the community" who don't understand the principles of due process in law.
I think the evidence is going to come down on a reasonable scenario, not on the hate crime/race motive. Zimmerman is not a racist, just an idiot neighborhood watch kid with no good sense. Trayvon Martin is not an innocent fourteen year-old choir boy, just a hoody creeping up the trash alley in a gated community checking for unlocked doors or dumpster goodies. He wasn't on the way to the store for anything. He was looking like a baddy. Zimmerman should have called the cops and some neighbors, and ducked inside, out of the way. Treyvon should have gone to the lighted street.
I don't trust the cops, not for anything. . . . don't even trust our courts for due process. This should go to a jury trial for sure, and there are a lot more questions to ask, and a lot more answers needed. Any police department who knows a former judge's kid is on the ropes is going to bend over to give him some slack. Going to happen whether the kid is white or black.
Our media, and some of our politicians are idiots to be pushing this as a race case. If you're in a responsible position you act to calm the situation, not inflame it. And you use your influence to make sure the justice system keeps to the truth, in objective terms, as much as you possibly can.
Nothing perfect or ideal about our system, except it's better than riots and race wars.
