Never made Matthews an offer. Thought that was why they didn't make an offer to Korver. This sucks. We could've had Wes for half what the Blazers are paying. Read the interview on Fan Match. I don't like it. Jerks. Just like they cast off RB last year. Didn't like that either, though it turned out in the Jazz's favor because it gave Matthews an opportunity. Wouldn't mind seeing RB back now that they signed Bell. Need another young wing, or Brown, who probably would be better because he can play the point.

This kind of deflates my euphoria and gives me a bad taste for the Jazz organization.

The Jazz were just letting the market dictate what he was worth. It wasn't disrespect. They were willing to match any reasonable offer for him, and he was a priority. 5 years 34 million is not reasonable though. I think it surprised the Jazz that this happened. In hindsight, they probably would have offered him 5 years 22 million or something, but that is hindsight. Nobody saw Portland coming in and offering wayyyy too much for Matthews.

Hmmmm is this like hangman? We have to guess what the stars are?

I guess.......a.......... T

Are you going to keep harping on this? Think with your head and not with your heart. Matthews was set to be overpaid by the Jazz or the Blazers. Thank god the Blazers went mental and offered him so much. Glad he got his money. Glad we aren't paying it to him.

What was the point of making an offer if they Jazz could just match it if they wanted to anyway?

You knew he would test the market one way or another.

Jesus man are you really that naive?

Has everyone forgot? Wes said previously, "No home team discount..."
Don't for a minute think this is all up to Kevin O' Conner! Wes could have contacted them and told them he'd accept less than his market value.
If Wes truly wanted to stay in Utah, he'd be here.

Read the interview. You heard what Matthews said. He would've taken less and his father said he was expecting 3-5 million per year. What does that tell you? Yeah, we could've gotten him for maybe a million more than what we're paying Bell. Stupid ploy if you ask me. It'll be okay next year, but look down the road. Wes has a long career ahead, and Raja maybe a couple good years left. This is not how to build a championship team.

I bet you were all for giving AK a max contract without letting him test the market, weren't you?

Scenario 1: Jazz submit a lowball qualifying offer, Wes shops around, receives offer from Blazers, Jazz decide not to match.

Scenario 2: Jazz make no offer, Blazers make same offer they would have made w or w/o Jazz QO, Jazz decide not to match.

Choose your own adventure, but the end is always the same.

I wonder if the people who complain really think their complaints all the way through.

Jazz don't offer Matthews >>> Matthews goes out and gets a sick offer, Jazz don't match.

Jazz offer Matthews >>> Matthews goes out and gets a sick offer, Jazz don't match.

It is the same ****ing thing.

EDIT: Damn, Bronco beat me.

I have to love this thread. We just traded for Al Jefferson and signed Raja Bell and you guys are bitching about KOC not resigning Matthews? If he puts up 5 PPG next year i'll be shocked.

I would have personally thought they would have learned from last year, when they had to match such a big offer for Millsap because they didn't just make one to begin with. Apparenly we don't learn our lessons.

This is the bad side of these young guys dealing with agents. An agent is ALWAYS gonna push for more $$$. If a player wants to stay with a team, he needs to get tough with his agent and tell him that his FIRST PRIORITY is to stay for a "reasonable" salary. I have to wonder if Wes just let his agent do what comes naturally; look for the most $$$... Too late now; really hated to lose him...

WTF are you talking about? Jazz got the better end of that deal...

Paul Milsap your starting/heavy rotation PF for 6M this year? Yeah just awful.
