What's new

"I probably would have stayed".........

Mods, can I request a move to General NBA as this has absolutely nothing to do with the Jazz and was obviously posted with a misleading thread title?

If I were the Knicks, I'd amnesty someone and make an offer to D.Will.

If I were the Lakers, I'd do the same.

If I were Orlando, I'd wish I could do that too.

Why can't Orlando do it? You are allowed 1 amnesty per off-season on contracts made prior to the CBA. Goodbye Hedo, hello Dwill.

i believe each team only gets the right to amnesty one player from now through 2015-2016 and they already used it on Arenas.

Yeah. Orlando is out barring something unforeseen and insane happens.

I think this is going to be a really interesting free agency period. Who's the next-highest profile player that will be on the market? Deron's going to be the guy.

This was discussed a couple of months ago, but I'm pretty sure each team is allowed 1 amnesty per offseason. You are only allowed to amnesty contracts that were made prior to the new CBA though.

Most owners won't be willing to have 17 players on their payroll when 3 off them aren't even on the team though.

Jeremy Lin and Steve Nash? Those are the only two I can think of off the top of my head.

Right, Nash. That's something. I think the Knicks own Lin's rights, though (pretty sure that's the rule for players with less than 3 years experience).

I'm guessing it's going to be a similar situation to the Matthews one here. Not sure if the new CBA changed how big contracts go for players with that little experience. I know Matthews had a cap since he was a sophomore getting a new contract.

I don't think this changed. The biggest offer Lin can get in the first year is the MLE. Raises can be higher than a normal contract, but it gives the current team the right to match even if they're over the cap.

Nets are just plain dumb. If they had been patient and not traded for DWill they would have this potential roster now:

PG - Brandon Knight? (last year's pick - around #8?)
SG - MarShon Brooks
SF - Harrison Barnes? (this year's pick - around #4? Possibly better if DWill wasn't playing?)
PF - Derrick Favors
C - Brook Lopez

That's not a bad group to build on. Add in an All Star in the free agency and that's a team with a pretty bright future.

And that's being pessimistic about last's year and this year's pick (Approx. #8 and #4).

Oh shoot! Next time use a less misleading gosh darn title so I wouldn't waste my freaking time reading non-Jazz related musings of a player.

Yet you continue to waste more of your precious "time" (I'm not so sure browsing an NBA fan forum is actually considered valuable time) by posting multiple times in this thread that you supposedly hate.

Go go gadget bull$#*&

Now, carry on.

Do us all a favor and go kill yourself.
Ouch.
People only get this mean when I offend their religion. I assume I offended your religion? :D

Either way, fishing for views through a misleading title is juvenile and annoying. Sorry you so strongly disagree.
In all fairness to bean, how was the title misleading? You assumed it was Deron talking about the jazz but bean never even named the person speaking.

This was discussed and your understanding was as incorrect then as it is now:
Larry Coon
Amnesty is a one-time deal. Teams can use it prior to any season under the current CBA, but once they’ve used it, it’s gone forever.

I looked at the Nets forum after this story was posted and I think the general opinion is that they traded Deron for Harris + Favors + Kanter all of whom they think are busts.

There's a thing about these big market fans that are just so impatient, they seem to think that their owners can just throw money around and get any players they want. Youth movement? What youth movement?

Reality check - once DWill is gone - you've got nothing left. NOTHINGGGGG....

DW has a great point. The players get the majority of criticism when they become FAs, they are cast as traitors but when they get traded the fans and organization usually wash their dirty hands from the transactions. Loyalty is a one way street especially in the NBA.

Well if DW was giving advice to King then he should stick to basketball because the Nets were idiots for giving up a top 3 protect number pick to get Gerald Wallace. Just imagine if the Nets were able to get MKG or Barnes then sign Dwight Howard in 2013 as a FA. plus their 2013 pick. Throw in Lopez and DW. Now that is a talent ed team. Now the Nets might end up with Gerald Wallace and Marshon Brooks as their main pieces.

DW
Brooks
Barnes
Howard
Lopez

Wallace/Morrow/Humphries off the bench.

...who did we get for Williams? A few mediocre players...who haven't won anything for us yet. Williams didn't win anything for us, either, although he did get us to the conference finals one year with his sidekick Boozer. Certainly if Williams leaves the Nets, which he most certainly will do if he's got any brains at all.....was definitely a bad trade for the Nets.

I think they are banking on the name "Brooklyn" to save the team.

LOL - and if they do manage to re-sign D-Will then they should strongly consider changing their name to the Brooklyn Dodgers - 'cause they'd sure dodge a bullet by doing that

I didn't intend the title to be misleading I just thought it was a funny quote. Also the thread was intended to high five KOC for keeping us fans out of this drama and giving us a bright future. But I guess that's not Jazz related......

Also you guys move the thread after 3 pages? Pathetic.

Poor Nets. Dude sounds like he's already a Maverick.

So if Deron leaves will that trade go down as one of the biggest rapings ever? I have to give KOC credit, I'm so glad were not in the Nets position. Ive never been more excited about a current Jazz team or their future.

Poor Nets? What did they think might happen? It was very risky and looks like it probably won't pay off.
