New Orleans wants JAZZ name back

He have leverage here. We want the name, "Saints", their next two first round draft picks, and Gordon. And some cash.

That being said, I would hate being the Utah Saints. How stupid could that be? Talk about cutting half of our population out of the name. That would be an awful marketing idea.

Cutting half the population out of the name because...? The way I see it, the Saints are currently an NFL team in New Orleans. Who's getting cut out of the name there? In Cleveland are those who aren't Indians or browns cut out? Not a fan of the name, but I don't see how it'd be different than them being in NO, other than there's a predominate religion with saint in the name, which for better or worse has a large history in the state, moreso than Celtics in Boston, Astros in Houston, or Dolphins in Miami.

That aside, the Utah Saints is lame.

Astros is a nod to NASA, who have a base in Houston. Same goes for the Rockets.

Jazz is a perfect name for New Orleans basketball team, too bad for them, we have it. Outside of a huge amount of money (that no one is going to be willing to pay), Miller's aren't giving it up, as it would infuriate the fan base. New Orleans still has a ton of good name change options available, as New Orleans is a culture rich city, so they have a near unlimited amount of name resources.

Well aware of the NASA connection. I'd read again, because I wasn't saying those things don't represent those cities.

If that old coot wants the name Jazz, he needs a DeLorean. Until then that ole ***** wrinkle should go with the NO Hot Five.

I say let them have it. I always hated "Jazz". I always thought it was a stupid name for a team. I want something better like the Utah Rhino's. Now that would be awesome.

So far, top names for New Orleans

New Orleans Riverboat Gamblers

The Jazz did not leave New Orleans for lack of fan support. There is a common and widespread misconception around the country to the effect of: “Hey, the Jazz left New Orleans for Utah; that means they didn’t support the team and didn’t deserve to keep the team”. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Jazz drew tremendously well in New Orleans and in fact held the single-game record for NBA attendance for many years.

The decision behind the team’s move rested squarely with their owner at the time, Sam Battistone. Battistone’s ownership of the team was not a civic enterprise, the way it often is for local owners. It was a business venture, and he was a businessman. In short, keeping the team in New Orleans was not good for his bottom line.

I also assume the only reason David Stern has lobbied so hard to keep a team in NOLA is because he can't get over how good the food is.

If they're so attached to the jazz music let's send them CJ Miles as a way for them to pay homage to Miles Davis. Win-win.
