What's new

After game 1, who wishes we had a draft pick next year?

I still think we will end up with a pick. Most likely I see KOC trading either Sap or Al for a 1st rounder this year. I think Milwaukee (Picking #12) could be a good trade partner as they seem to be trying desperately to get into the playoffs and they need a PF or C.

Playoff experience for Hayward, Favors, Burks, Kanter (and potentially Carroll if the Jazz look to bring him back) is more important than the difference between a first-round pick in 2012 and a first-rounder in 2013 (it's not like we completely forfeit the pick, we'd likely lose it in 2013 if not 2012).

The one caveat is the Jazz are a better team when Favors sees more burn and Al less, and Burks/Carroll more time than a rusty and veteran Josh Howard. If Ty is going to limit their PT because of their inexperience rather than their effectiveness, some of the benefit will be negated, but overall making the playoffs will be more benificial when you keep in mind the Jazz still have assets, still have youth, and still have alot of ways to improve in the offseason.

From what I understand is that the 2012 draft will be much deeper than the 2013 draft. So a pick in this draft has more value. Also given the Golden State Tankers ability to tank who even says we get the 2013 pick?

I am ok with the playoffs but as Numberica said. We are not set enough to move forward.

Also for the record, I am not wild about the idea of trading into the draft since the Jazz will still have picks coming their way in future years (conceivably too many).

If Kanter progresses we are set. I think are future hinges on him developing.

Now wait just a god damn minute. OKC also was overflowing with assets, had a scoring champion, and won 50 games that year. .

Look, I know being the internet hard *** is your thing; but but if your point is OKC 2010 is better than Utah 2012 then you're arguing some else's arguement. Go back and read my post again then try to formulate an actual response to it

Also, who said anything about tanking?

Either Utah is good enough to make the playoffs or they're not, if someone is suggesting they're better off not making the playoffs so they can get another draft pick, that's tanking in my book (and everyone else who understands the definition of the word tanking). Which, by the way, has only been brought up a billion times on this board since last summer.

Look, I know being an internet hard *** is not your thing, so don't try.

If that wasn't your point, what the **** was it? This Jazz team is not the 2010 Thunder, so I fail to see why you're comparing them. So help me and everyone else out with your - admitted - non-sequitor.

If I really have to spell it out for you (which I shouldn't) then you're probably too dumb to understand my additional explanation just for you - so just take off your bib and carry on.

Maybe ask the 3 people who pos repped me for the post to explain it.

You're getting mighty chitwonjazz here.

If you want to stick your chest out and throw a parade for making comparisons, and then suddenly saying you're not making a comparison, I can't stop you. I can only wonder why and ask. I've yet to get anything resembling a sane answer, but that's cool too.

Fight!Fight!Fight!

Alright, after a lot of deep thought and a lot of contrition for my being a hard ***, I'm ready to admit I don't get it. Someone help me please understand what is going on here:

When OKC was an 8 seed 3 years ago, was anyone looking for them to tank the season?

Now wait just a god damn minute. OKC also was overflowing with assets, had a scoring champion, and won 50 games that year.

I admit I am obviously the dumb one here. So dear and great, solid 3 pos reppers, help me understand.

I didn't rep him but, you're wrong and he/she is right. Next!

(I lean towards your arguement though).

Positives
In the first half Hayward and Favors were playing with an intensity level that I had never seen from them before. Hayward especially had that "look" in his eyes. He sank big shots and you can tell he was going to make this game count.

Are you Hayward with Haywood in Dallas? Hayward made a full 2 field goals the entire game.

All I wanted to know is why someone compared an apple to an orange to make a point, then turned around and says they didn't make the comparison.

Regardless of who was better between the 09/10 Thunder and the current Jazz team is nearly irrelevant. Of course we now have hindsight to say the Thunder do indeed have all the pieces, because we can clearly see they have all developed. Two years from now with the Jazz our key young guys may turn out to be All-Stars. I haven't really read the argument or anything, but I think I got the basic idea of it?

The Thunder still had to trade to get Perkins to put themselves into actual contender status.

The fan boys of Draft picks need to address this point. Who is to say that if we had missed the playoffs this year that we don't draft crappily and end up with another Raul, instead of a Parker or Ginobli?

Yeah, bro. The only thing better than squeezing into the playoffs and getting blown out is seeing the talent is not there and having no prospects of fixing that issue.

There are a ton of fans of the Houston model here. Good luck with your Scola, Lowry, Kevin Martin, and late draft pick misery.

So now it's better to make the playoffs and not get the #12 pick, get blown out, and then trade away an asset for the #12 pick. Again, we either have the talent necessary or we need draft picks.

I like your idea if we get the pick and a player but doubt anyone is giving up enough value to make it worth considering.

The difference between 2010 OKC and 2012 Jazz is the media pimps the OKC team every step of the way, while they say only a couple subtle positives about the Jazz. Media hype, aka Superstar status, goes a long way in today's NBA. Sometimes media hype is all you need and you'll a) get the calls, b) get the benefit of the doubt, and c) probably go further in the playoffs than you should, because you're given 1 or 2 games that you have no business winning. Therefore, perpetuating the false notion that your team is good, when really, they're media hyped and superstar status'd and the NBA will do it's best to keep that team relevant.

Media hype is probably something this team will never have. No one they would have drafted at 14 or 8 will have media hype either.

To win this team needs more media hype, and the only way to get hyped is to be in the playoffs more and show the national audience that Favors and Hayward are fun to watch and Burks is instant offense. If they see that, they'll pimp us more. If they pimp us more, we'll get more calls (especially on the road) and we'll win more.

If you want more Kirk Snyders, Morris Almonds, and Raul Lopez's...keep wishing for draft picks.

I would say the biggest difference between OKC 09/10 and Jazz 11/12 is Kevin Durant. We aren't getting a KD in this draft, no matter where we draft though ,so it's a mute point. If Marshall is still available at 14, I would be surprised. I don't think we really missed on that "missing piece" by making the playoffs. GSW might have ****ed us over though.
