LHM group buying 1280 the zone (ending lease with 1320)

LOL at people liking Gunther. He's Utah humor personified.......whatever you're saying, just say it really loud/yell it. Bam, instant humor. Very high brow/next level ****.

That and he just murders movie quotes saying them all wrong or trying to say them and forgetting how they go and throwing others in the mix which only makes him look even dumber.

Are y'all like 100 years old? Who listens to the radio?
I drive a bus, so radio is my best option unless you want me checking twitter on my phone while driving in your neighborhood........

And what about that source? At least someone can mention where the news came from, I can't find it.

1320 and the LHM family of companies have a great relationship, they use nearly all of their on air talents in their broadcasts in one way or another.

1320's lineup is far superior to 1280's and, despite the better signal strength, the ratings battle was not even close. 1230KFAN2 was closer to 1280 than 1280 was to 1320. But if this winds up with Utah getting rid of the "personalities" at 1280 and potentially gives Utah an option for a midday show other than The Red and Blue Show, we will all be better off.

I have stopped listening to Dj and pk...If DJ says the sun is hot, PK will argue that it isnt. Then they have to throw their pop culture references in to show that they are "hip". I simply could not stand it and don't listen any more.

Not that it matters but just wanted to throw in, if you remember originally DJ & PK were on 1280 until LHM group took over 1320 and moved them over.

And somewhere Trout is pissed about the use of "Spence" and people liking h im.

So, I'm not the only person who hated the Red and Blue show?

I'm surprised. It seems like the Jazz take a back seat to college football around here. It makes me sad sometimes, I'll tune in for some interesting Jazz talk. And I mean when there is a reason to discuss, after a trade, during the draft, after an injury, you know, when it's topical. And they'll be discussing who's the best 4th string quarterback for BYU. Drives me nuts.

But, I figure they just cater to their audience and I'm in a minority wanting to actually hear Jazz news over Football blather (not news).

All this speculation ablout what DJ's will be fired and what not. Watch, nobody is changed, nothing. It will probably be just simple change of ownership papers.

Finally, a source. Had to find out for myself.

From this article I find that

a: they are getting both the AM and FM stations.
b: there will be some talent from both stations on the new station.
c: they will still be leasing, they will just be leasing a station with a stronger signal and an FM mirror.

The only person on all of 1280 that I want to hear is Jake Scott. Probably a good business move, but man, a lot of folks at 1280 are going to lose their jobs over this.

No, they are only leasing until the sale goes through. From your link:

LHM has signed a letter of intent to buy KZNS AM and FM from the Salt Lake City Radio Trust. (The stations were sold into that trust by Simmons Media in January 2011.) No purchase price was announced.

LHM plans to operate The Zone stations under an LMA pending FCC approval of the sale, which is expected in 60 to 90 days.

I don't know what you were looking for originally. In some of my earlier posts I discussed some of what I heard from my personal source, but edited it later. It wasn't public yet and had just happened when I posted my original. There was no link to give you at the time.

I don't want to read this whole thread. Does this mean the Jazz effectively control all media spin on the Jazz outside the flyweights (or ESPN who ignores us anyway)? I get it from a business standpoint, but I don't think this is a good thing if that's what it is.

I am rejoicing the takeover of 1280 - I have been complaining about 1320's signal since the Jazz left 570. Cache Valley residents will finally get the Jazz radio network back...I quit listening to 1280 altogether when I discovered 700 AM - I was forced to look around rather than put up with the Red and Blue show. I am rejoicing the change and hopefully the best stay, which will improve the quality of our listening experience. I personally think Spencer Checketts is the best of the whole lot...

No, there is still 700AM, DesNews, SLTrib, etc. They merely own one of the two sports radio stations (assuming the third, 1320, disappears).

They don't know dick about basketball so its a blessing in disguise.

Jan doesn't know how many minutes are in a basketball game. Take that for what it is worth when you start to feel bad that LHM will own the "Jazz spin" in the area.

I hope the new station does whatever they can to get "Through my Eyes" to switch over from ESPN 700. Through my Eyes is great; it's basically a 1 hr show where Karl says Through my Eyes about once every 15 seconds (which is good because 1- it reminds me whose eyes are being looked through, and 2- I find myself constantly dozing off during the show so it's a good reminder as to what radio show I'm listening to).

I heard this show once. It was awesome! Here's a transcription of one riveting segment, just in case some of you were unfortunate enough to miss it:

Host: Karl, what do you think of mashed potatoes?
Karl: Through my eyes? They are good to eat. I like them a lot. Through my eyes.
Host: Do you think Jerry Sloan would like them?
Karl: Oh, Coach? Let me tell you something through my eyes. Coach Sloan, he was one of the coaches I had in my pro career. Him, Coach Layden, Coach Jackson. Through my eyes.
Host: Where are you doing today's broadcast from, Karl?
Karl: Through my eyes? This is a very secret location. But I can see my wife from where I'm sitting right now. I will tell you that.
Host: Through your eyes?
Karl: What are you talking about?
Host: I'm asking if you can see your wife through your eyes.
Karl: I guess you could say that. Yes, you could say that. Through my eyes. And let me say this, it sure is fun getting to know you.
Host: Yes, this is fun.
Karl: So what would you like to talk about next? Through my eyes?
