I love Jerry for what he contributed over the years, but he should have hung it up several years before he did. If he does come back, I predict he'll be retired again within a year or two. Right now he's bored and reminiscing about better times, but once he gets back around some of these current players, it won't take him long to remember why he walked out in the middle of a season in the first place.

What would be the point of Sloan mentoring a young team like the Bobcats? The best argument is he'll change their culture (while he doesn't win.) Jerry has a lot to offer as far as team basketball principles and the strength of character to get players in line.

But Jerry hasn't coached actual defense in 2 decades. His flex offense is a relic to anyone but us. And he won't be around long enough to see a team like the Bobcats actually do something. What exactly does he have to offer?

Well, you have to admit Sloan does have his way with teaching PG's and PF's. If they do land Davis, their two cornerstones are a PG and a PF. I think Sloan could do a good job coaching them up, especially Kemba.

I feel that the Bobcats are guaranteed another year of **** if they get a regular head coach and land Davis. That would give them another top 5, and possibly a guy like Shabazz. I fear Sloan might potentially mess that up and get them into 8th spot contenders his first year there, kind of putting a halt to their talent pool income.

Don't get me wrong, I love the guy. But he can't help a young team at his age. He can barely help a veteran team since his offensive and defensive philosophies are ancient. If he enlisted assistants to work out the X's and O's I'd have more confidence. But he's not going to do that.

The game is past him. We saw this. He needs to let it go.

Any team hiring Jerry is making a mistake. The game has passed him by. We lived through 5 years of that realization (at least). His legacy can't be taken from him and he was once one of the great coaches, but those days are over. He belongs to a different era and he'll fail. No need to sugarcoat it.

...exactly! Back in Sloans day, teams would call a time out, draw up a play, then execute the play. Today, teams call a time out, take a sip of gatoraide and then say, "huh, what?.....we gotz to play some ball!"

Even Jerry's been outcoached by Pop. Ty's still a rookie coach, and I can tell he's going to get better. With a non-offseason with a new team, he managed to end the season with a .500 record.

We're good for now.

Honestly, if the option is Ty versus Jerry, I'd go with Jerry every single time. It's clear Ty really doesn't grasp this head coaching thing and I feel the path he's leading us on will just prolong the true rebuilding.

If, however, it's between bringing Sloan back and say Stan Van Gundy, I say go after Van Gundy. Not to disrespect Sloan, but we need a long-term option and Van Gundy could be it. But if we can't get that long-term option, I'd happily welcome Sloan back in the short to get things righted for a few years and then hand the franchise over to a competent coach.

Yes.

Sloan won't though. He respects Ty and the organization too much to come back.
But he didn't respect the organization enough to leave five years ago when he should have

[I'm amazed by how many posters have come around to a similar opinion when, just two short years ago, Sloan apologists seemed to dominate the dialogue]

Sloan should have quit right after the 2003-2004 season when it was obvious he wasn't making any of the substitutions that hall-of-fame armchair coach Ingamestrategy proposed. And for the same reason Corbin should quit right now

I really do hope that Jerry (if he desires to get back into coaching) finds a good job that enables him to coach in the playoffs and have chances at winning a title.

He's one of those good guys that I personally just cannot help but cheer for. Obviously, we all remember him (for better or worse) as coach. But on a personal level, I've only heard marvelous things about him. From folks that have either worked with him or talked with him, I've heard that he's friendly, funny, witty, sincere, and just a class act.

I'll never forget the interview he had in... 03-04? I think... It was during halftime... It was a special that KJAZZ had on during halftime... Where he cried (only time I've ever seen him in tears) about the passing of his wife.

I also remember hearing that he quit smoking and drinking in the 2000s after doing it for how long? Remarkable.

He wasn't perfect, not as a person or as a coach (obviously). But despite that tough guy exterior he seems to have a very warm and "human" interior. Which is why I cheer for him so much.

How funny. The pot heads, gays, drunks, and child molesters all think Ty is doing a bang-up job.

Nice job, Democrats.

Works for me.

Or even better, the ownership could demand accountability on the court--and could demand the coach to enforce it (along with sound allocation of playing time based on development, experimentation with optimal rotations, resting injuries, ignoring the "veteran privilege," etc.)

Things haven't changed much since then, vj; Popovich is still proving that sound development of young players and sound in-game management works. Kawhi Leonard got 24 MPG during the regular season, and he learned how to shoot. Nobody but Parker and Duncan played more than 25 MPG. Gary Neal is shooting >>50% in the playoffs during his sophomore year. Pop has what Sloan never had. And Tom Thibodeau & Rick Carlisle were there for the taking.

Blah blah blah..are'nt you tired of repeating this same crap? Maybe your boring job has really gotten to you. Or maybe it is me who missed Boozer turning into an all-NBA 1s team defense player leading Bulls to multiple championships under Thibodeau.Or the brilliance of Carlisle working for a billionaire owner who could buy just about all the players they needed year after year for a decade until they found a pricey enough team which could muster a whopping ONE championship.Hmm..pretty compelling examples you have there to show why those coaches are in a different stratosphere as compared to Sloan

So how long 'til you come crying back to Jason and the mods to let you back on the board after being banned?

Well, since I've only got one infraction and it's about ready to fall off, I'm not too worried about it, nor have I thought about it much. Besides, they'll never ban me permanently; remember, I have them all in my pocket.
