Marc Stein: Jazz-Warriors discuss pre-Lottery trade (Source says trade "likely")

it used to be that I could log on late at night and start a fight with O Gatino. Those were the days. Now, you all are too nice and I'm not as "anonymous" as I used to be.

I'm not good at this "fighting" thing. Can't we all just love each other?

If a deal has been made, but can't be announced until draft day, it's surely a contingency situation. We get Package A if another team jumps GS, or Package B if Golden State holds on. Which means we've absolutely given up the pick.

My guess for Package A is GS has guaranteed a 1st after the current deal expires -- hopefully unprotected in 15. My guess for Package B is they've agreed to swap one of their seconds in this draft for ours. The deal remains otherwise unchanged in that scenario.

Never really thought of that .. but what little I was told was a deal WILL (100%) be done, but it may not be made public until draft day. I have no idea what the details are (I've asked) but just sharing (kinda wish I hadn't, I think).

So it's going to happen? Hmm. I'm betting it's a 3-team deal with GSW getting a player, the Jazz getting a mid-round pick and/or player, and the third team giving up a player to GSW, getting GSW's lotto pick, and sending something to the Jazz. That would be a fair deal for the Jazz. That's just a wild guess (obviously)....

Edit: The Jazz would have to send their TPE to GSW....assuming that's allowed.

Actually, based on what you're saying here, the deal could be announced after the lotto on Wednesday when draft positions are finalized. If it's not announced until draft day, it would mainly be so that the teams involved don't show their cards to other teams in a way that might adversely affect their making other deals.

Here is what is going to happen...

PHI trades Igoudala and #15 pick

PHI receives #8 pick, Richard Jefferson, and #35 pick

GS trades #8 pick, #35 pick and Richard Jefferson

GS receives Igoudala and Jazz 2nd rounder

UTA trades 28% chance at #8 and 2nd rd pick

UTA receives #15 pick

Trade cant be announced until the draft because GS will draft for Philly to avoid the trading your draft pick 2 years in a row rule.

BOOM!

The rule states that you cannot sell/trade your first round pick in back to back drafts. If through selling/trading your pick you get another first rounder then that counts as your first round pick.

Wow! How'd you come up with this? I like it. Unless I'm missing something, it seems to make sense for all teams.

PHI decides it's reached its limit with only a defensive oriented team with good role players, rolls the dice that #7/8 will provide a scorer.
GS attempts to go from tanking to contending with Curry/Thompson/Iggy/Lee/Bogut lineup.
UTA figures that in this deep draft the difference in quality between #8 and #15 is not great. Decides that a high quality role player fits needs better than a 1 in 4 shot at a player who may be just slightly better.

Philly just came one game from going to ECF (albeit through the back door) - they're not going to trade their best player.

The player they'll look to move is Brand - who makes a **** ton of money and can't play at a high level any more.
