Not that I try to disagree with Trout at every turn, but......I disagree.
Before becoming an Aircraft Mechanic I worked for Discount Tire Company for 8 years and I still swear by them. During that time, I usually found it hard for the ma and pa tire stores to match Discount's prices because of their nation-wide buying power. In fact, locally owned and locally franchised tire stores almost always have the highest prices around. Not only that, but I dislike the "keep the money local" idea. The guys working at any location of nation-wide tire chain are obviously people who live amongst you in your communities and need the business as well.
But probably my biggest reason for pimping Discount? During my 8 years there, I spent A LOT of time in meetings with the big bosses. Time after time, they drill it into your head that it's not about making a quick buck or screwing over some dumb sap. Even though they're a big time chain, I can honestly say that their biggest concern is taking care of the customer and giving them the best price in town. They know that's the best way to keep people coming back.
Now Trout, I'm sure your in-laws run a nice business and I'm certianly not trying to knock them. In fact, I admire anybody who gets into that line of work. Selling tires is usually a back breaking, thankless, pain in the *** thing to do. Just giving my 0.02 on the matter.......
