DX Video on Damian Lillard

Not saying he doesn't have skills. I know that the distance from the three point line is the same from big sky to ACC, but I bet the amount of open looks in the big sky is a lot more then in the ACC.

Lillard is the most athletic in the big sky. In the NBA he won't be. He won't have the open looks he had in collage. We all know that in the NBA the players are bigger stronger and faster. All I'm saying is his adjustment period from collage to the pro's will be tougher do to the lack of talent in the big sky. So yes he's a bit more risky of a pick then others.

I understand these concerns, and they are valid.

however, he was consistently double teamed, and still somehow managed to be extremely efficient.

In todays nba, with the rules presently instituted, Fast, athletic pgs who can finish in the lane, draw fouls, and are a legit threat from deep will be almost unguardable to all but a handful of elite defenders.

Imo his moderate passing skills coupled with his legit threat to score from anywhere would open up more looks for teammates than an exceptional passer without a legit offense.

I approve of Thee Jazz Fan being the anti-Lillard is worth a lottery pick Jazzfanz spokesperson. And for future board bragging rights, please know that I'm firmly in that camp. I'd personally have trouble even picking him in the first round at all.

Remember how Hayward came from a school in a (much) worse conference? Clearly, players from small schools are worthless.

I try to stay away from prediction, and even though this means little right now, I'm telling you all right now that Lillard will be closer to what everyone wished JIMMER!!!!!1 was than Jimmer himself.

Not much of a reach, there, but I would lay big money on that being accurate.

Do you have any reasons for this? I'd like to hear them.

I think we've heard all the anti-rhetoric. It can all be summed up in 'level of competition.'

The only semi-valid argument that I think truly exists is how what level of floor general can he be. Can he run an offense effectively enough to play point in the NBA.

Not only did he play against a lower level of competition, but had a lower level of teammates. I can only imagine playing with NBAers would make his PG skills look better...

If Lillard slips to 12th, do you think we could do.....

Jefferson
Bell (both expire in 2013) for

12th pick
Dunleavy Jr. (expires 2013)
Gooden
Udrih (expires 2013)

Gooden is a defensive sieve, and is very hated among the Bucks fan base (as far as I can tell). Still, he makes for a decent backup 4, and gives us decent height for a 4/5 combo with Kanter, while we start Millsap and Favors. Dunleavy is an awesome bench player, hovering close to 40% from three, 47.4% from the field, with nearly 4RPG to boot.

The Bucks do this to round out a decent lineup, assuming they re-sign Ilyasova, and hang onto Udoh. As far as I can tell, if they were to draft on need, Meyers Leonard would be the most obvious pick seeing as they have a huge, gaping hole at C. Now, obviously Meyers initially seems like the sort of player that they would much-prefer over Jefferson, but this trade also gives them cap-relief of a player who will be 33 years old by the end of his ~7 mill per year contract (further helping them to re-sign Ilyasova)
Jennings (low salary)
Ellis
Mbah a Moute/Delfino(??)
Ilyasova/Udoh
Jefferson
Pros

Jazz:

1) We get Lillard
2) We get rid of Jefferson
3) We get rid of Bell
4) Udrih and Dunleavy both expire in 2013.

Bucks:

1) Get rid of Gooden, and his terrible contract
2) Get rid of Udrih, and his inflated contract
3) Use this cap relief to now throw a good offer at Ilyasova and keep him
4) Have a formidable rebounding frontcourt in Ersan, Udoh, Jefferson, and Mbah a Moute.
5) Gives them a talented front and backcourt, with hopefully an effort to teach Jefferson defense.
6) They get another "good" defensive player in Bell, which adds to their backcourt as a decent bench figure
Problems:

Jazz:
1) We will have a three year contract with a lacklustre player in Drew Gooden, expiring on 2014-2015 (5 year 32 million dollar deal signed on July 2010)- effectively negating much of our cap room in 2013. Also potentially removes playing time from Kanter
2) Might be hard to re-sign Dunleavy after 2013- hence, this trade is really Al (and a ham sandwich) for the 12th pick (presuming its used to pick Lillard) and a terrible 4 year contract. Worth it?

Bucks:

1) Although getting rid of Gooden and Udrih seriously helps them re-sign Ilyasova (nearly 13 million dollars in cap-relief), it also complicates things in terms of how to manage all of these salaries. Ellis, Jennings and Jefferson might all request AT LEAST $10 million per. Throw in a 7 million dollar contract from Ilyasova, and $5 mill from Mbah a Moute, and the Bucks find themselves quickly climbing towards the Luxury Tax threshold.
2) Leonard might be a better fit for this defensive-minded Bucks team. If their FO falls in love with Meyers, theres no way they do this trade. Only way I can see it happening is if they can't foresee many great picks at 12 at positions of need, and find themselves needing to fill a hole at the 5 spot.

^ I like the Hornets, Bobcats, and Rockets trades that have been proposed more, but this is just something that Ive thought about.

EDIT: feel free to adjust the trade and make new suggestions. I know for one that Udrih would take time away from Lillard. Maybe work around that?

thanks Duck...

I'm willing to to take risks at any position except at pg. We need to make sure we get someone who will meet the needs and help bring out Favors potential on offense. I'm not sure Lillard is the guy for the job.

I like that trade with the Bucks. In fact, if we could afford to bring him back Dunleavey (sp?) might be nice because he seems like he's an older version of Hayward. Plus we get Lillard whom like I said, in 3-4 years will be a top-10 PG. Guaranteed.
