Jazz May Be A Part of 3-Team Deal w/ Clippers

KOC has the better leverage here. Dallas doesn't want to take salary back from the Clippers to dump Odom. And we can make that happen. Dallas' leverage is Odom only costs them 3 million-ish once he's waived, but they want that cap space that we're providing. So you have to make them pay for that.

Im confused. If they waive him that $3 mil counts against the cap?

Pretty funny to think that this hinges on Mo opting in for one more year at $8.5M when the Jazz didn't want to pay him $5M over 3 years way back when.

With the TPE, I wondered if the Jazz would be in on Lamar Odom talks in one way or another.

The real question is, given Mo's contract situation, why are we interested in a one-year rental of a 30 year old point guard?

Correct. Which tells me this is likely a link in a chain of events that will ultimately mean jettisoning the 2nd most ill-fitting player on the team.

Lakers also have a TPE to take him back (the TPE they got by shipping him to Dallas).
But Lakers may not want him. They're trying to trade Gasol and Metta. I think they want to move forward and rework that team, not take a gamble on a guy who collapsed last year.

Not to mention the cap hold of a 1st rounder...

If we can parlay this into getting a real positive asset for Harris I think we will all be thrilled.

It's not Mo for "nothing", it's Mo for rented cap space. I don't think Mo's value equals the rented cap space so they should get something back in the form of a pick or cash. A 1st is unlikely, but a 2nd should be a given. THEN being able to aggressively shop Harris should be an ancillary benefit, not the sum benefit of acquiring Mo.

Dallas' #17? I think it's a real possibility...

If they're reloading with DWill, the #17 pick is when it starts to get a bit iffy talent wise... plus building through the draft is really not Dallas' style. They'd rather have the cap room to lure other FA to join DWill & Durk and make a run to the Finals straight away next year.

Just in case it had to be spelled out, this is only secondarily about Mo Williams, but if we're to compare Williams vs. Harris, Williams is still a better fit here and is a much more viable longterm option (shooting is a skill that ages well, kamikaze in the lane is not).

He has a partially guaranteed deal that enables Dallas to waive him for a number around 3 million. It's in his contract. They don't pay his full salary, but pay the 3, and that goes against their cap.

Got it.

That $3 mil isnt enough to keep them from signing DWill though right? If thats the case I dont see them sending us #17.

Yes.

Anything not worse for Al works for me.
Anything not worse Harris works as well.

I would only want something substantial in a deal involving the 4 + Sap.

Again, that should be an ancillary benefit. It's separate from renting your Cap Space to help 2 competitors within your division that are better than you already. The only way it makes sense is if you think getting an overpaid Mo for free is worth the sticker cost. It isn't. So Dallas and LA need to cough something up.

Well, he was coming off a season of shooting 38%/26% and the Jazz already had 2 decent PG's in their stable (or so they thought). Who knew Mo would develop into a great PG? I think the feeling back then was also a concern over his size. He is pretty small at 6'1." Mo certainly isn't the solution long-term, but he'd be great to have while another PG is developing. And hopefully it would lead to Harris being dealt sooner rather than later.

Also, I know Corbin is not Sloan, but the offense will probably be similar, even with a full training camp for Ty. It used to take 1-2 years for a new PG to learn Sloan's system. Mo would be able to come in and not miss a beat.

I like it. Helps push Devin out the door in a subsequent trade. Brings in a better shooter. Doesn't let our tpe go to waste . And still doesn't hinder our cap space for 2013
