I got bad news about Marvin Williams

Sheridan is saying otherwise.

Nothing's done until it's done IMO. There's that memorandum too.

The deal is done. I'm listening to Sheridan's logic and it doesn't wash. It's predicated on Howard being so firmly committed to Brooklyn that no one will even bid. Sheridan even foolishly disregards the idea Atlanta's package Teague/Horford and picks would be trumped by Jersey's package of Humphries/Lopez/Brooks. Somebody other than Jersey is going to bid, and virtually everybody has more to offer.

So, just to clarify, and because it doesn't seem to have been touched on yet in this thread.......what spot was Marvin Williams drafted?
As has been pointed out, he was drafted #2.

Big farving deal. The Jazz weren't the ones that drafted him #2, they weren't the ones that failed to develop him or pass him the ball. He's tall, long, athletic, can shoot the ball.

Basically we traded a player who had no future in Utah who is well into his prime for a player who is just entering his prime who 'supposedly' has been underutilized and mishandled. Even if it bombs, we only have him for a year at his high salary, and possibly another year at a lower more reasonable salary. Good gamble. I'm stoked.

MKG was #2 this year. Maybe that's why KOC didn't trade up for him. You guys think Marvelous could be our MKG?

Oh, and about the whole 'thin at point guard' thing:

Mo is a good point guard. He has been an all star, he knows how to play alongside superstars and still contribute. He might not be the John Stockton pass first guard some want, but the current Jazz team has so many good passing wing players, that might not matter as much.

Mo is fine. In fact, why are we concerned about the backup point guard spot? Remember back in the day when the starting point guard was getting at least 35 min per game? It's only recently that the backup guards have been putting in 20 min per game and that was because Devin SUCKED for a large part of the year. Now that Mo is on the team, we can get back to where our starting guard gets over 35 per game and who cares who backs him up for 12 min?

There is NO drop off in D from Harris to Mo.

Devin Harris

Haha, you have to remember..... Harris has been guarding starting point guards for his entire career.
Mo hasn't.

He was a top 2 pick - just like Darko would never be liked in Detriot but is a servicable role player in Minnesota.

It's all relative.

I just hope Utah can talk M-Will to take the ball in the paint more often a la Donyell Marshall during his short stay. With his size and athletic ability he should not be settling for jumpers all day.

He's not even serviceable anymore. Even when Pekovic missed a lot of games with ankle issues late last season, Darko was still glued to the bench.

So has Mo been holding opposing SG's to a lower %? That's pretty impressive since he'd be giving up several inches. We all saw what happened when we tried that with Fisher. Every SG in the league went off for 40-50 pts. per game.

We'll see....

We need a pnr pg for what we do. We can use Hayward to a certain extent on that but Mo will have to do some of it too. I don't think he can only be a shooter here.

Unless we just plan on scrapping the pnr for the most part, which I am against, but we got to work with what we got.

Just eat the chocolate, I am confident it is not full of corn. At least the Jazz are not the Nets. JJ's contract is devastating.

I hope Marvin isn't corn poo.

way to make a blanket statement and then back it up by citing one random statistic.

there will be ways that mo thrills the hell out of us. there will also be ways that he will be a huge step down from harris. the sooner we embrace that reality, the less painful our lives will all be in november.

I'd probably be bummed about Marvin if the Jazz spent a #2 pick on him.

But since the Jazz didn't, that doesn't mean much to me. Now it's all about who he's replacing. And since he's essentially replacing Howard/Raja/CJ I love it.

I think people are really glossing over what I have brought up in this thread. Atlanta fans don't like him at all. Not just becuase they spent a 2 on him. But because they spent a 2 on him, and he sucks. That correlation between the two doesnt negate the fact that he suck (Im just going off of Atlanta fans view). Just because we didn't spend a 2 on him doesn't mean he won't suck.

Is CJ a good player because of where he was picked? Well, yes, but that doesn't mean you want him on our team.

Where you are picked doesn't really mean **** in the grand scheme of things. Do you suck or not is the only important question.
