What's new

Mo Williams Press Conference

Talk is talk until the games start. Since Williams is our new point, I'm behind him. But lets see him play. The guy hasn't run a true point in nearly 5 years.

I don't know why, but I believed everything he said. I've always liked him as a person and player, but I like him a bit more.

Also, he has a real wealth of experience to draw from; three different teams, has played with Lebron, Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Michael Redd before he was hot trash, and he was even the key piece in what became a trade for a #1 pick. Interesting, I thought.

It is exciting to see what he can bring to the jazz's game, certainly comes across as a balanced person.

As others have in effect said, we will truly find out what kind of player he is when he begins to go under the jazzfanz microscope, play by play, game by game! Does he defend? can he defend the P&R? can he run the P&R? can he get past his man regularly? Is he a creative passer? etc etc. Here's hoping!!!

Like Williams said, he is who he is.

Like Williams said, he is who he is.

Yeah, I took note of that to - I suppose the questions is, who is he? Hopefully he is the 2007-2009 player!

I must say, in jazz games vs mo williams' teams, I never got the feeling that he was all that intense of defence or necessarily a great distributor of the ball.

However, my recollection is that a lot of the time he was not playing PG, but rather as a small SG.

Again, I suppose we wait till the new season to evaluate, however, I dont think the line, "I am who I am" is going to save Mo on the jazzfanz website. It certainly hasnt saved big Al!

From Mo Williams' comments, I don't get the feeling that the Jazz are going to trade Al Jefferson immediately. Mo seems to be looking forward to playing with him.

I don't think they are, either.

I imagine some teams losing bigs in FA/looking to stockpile expiring contracts will come calling about Al. But I think KOC wants to roll into the season with his full stable of big men. If it's something we can't live without, I say pull the trigger, but otherwise I'm fine with it.

Mo's attitude >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Harris's attitude.

Your point guard has got to have "nuts in the cup" (thank you Franklin). Harris didn't.

Absolutely correct. Harris was a good player no doubt.

But as a PG, he never seemed to gel the team together. He never led from the front. He just didn't have a 'go to' move that all leaders have.

Just re-watched the video - Mo is a truly a seasoned veteran and a family man. The more I think about this trade, the more I like it.

Just hearing him talk, it's very clear he is completely self aware and confident in his skills, both everything he is and everything he isn't. I expect him to average 15-17 ppg/6-7 apg and provide a calming veteran presence for the young'ns, something Harris probably never given that he never found his groove here.

Mo, Favors, Paul, Jefferson (...Murphy?) - I'm loving our stable of Southern boys. They all seem to have a very solid head on their shoulders.

Best set of interviews I've ever seen, including the conversation w/ Locke and his responses to fan questions. Was pretty funny to see that pic of him wearing a Stockton jersey taken a few weeks ago. I think he really did want to come back. And I liked his response near the end when he said his plan is to finish his career here (and KOC concurred).

His BBIQ is off the charts.

I think his friendship with Big Al means Jefferson may still be here for the startof the season, although KOC looked very uncomfortable when asked about more deals. He evaded a question about Marvin as well. KOC sure has a wry sense of humor, though. One of the reporters asked him why he used the TPE so hastily and he said because you ask me about it every week.

Between Mo and Paul (if he stays), this team is going to be known for their work ethic. I'm pretty excited about Mo's "leadership and toughness." MAybe his kids chose the #16 because he's twice the man Deron is/was.

Agree. And Deron was a bit aloof. I don't care that MO wont be a 20/10 guy. I see 15-16 with 6-7 assists. Fewer pts and assists, but he's not going to spend 15 seconds dribbling the ball trying to break his opponent down with crossovers, either. Mo will finish his career here, I guarantee it. And I think he probably has 3-4 years left as a starter and then he'll be willing to split time with and mentor a young PG.

Is that a wish or prediction? I dont know why Mo SHOULD finish his career here. I mean, thats upto the Jazz. A lot of players say the right things when they join a team. Ultimately how long they last until the honeymoon gets over remains to be seen. I do hope Mo has a nice run with the Jazz, but without seeing him in even a single game for the Jazz, I am not about to wish that he ends his career with the Jazz

It's quite amazing how we've talked about needing a future point guard on this board and suddenly KOC went out and got us exactly who we need.

An experienced PG, a leader, who can run a team and most importantly shoot it from 3's. Who is also motivated to play (contract year).

What's more, we effectively got him for free.

I wouldn't call a 30-year old non-pure point exactly what we need, but he's an infinitely better fit than Harris.

This post just makes sense.

If you listen to his press conference he explains all about the years he wasn't a pure PG. More by circumstance than actual desire. Milwaukee had TJ Ford return - and they moved Mo over to SG to acccommodate. LA brought in CP3 and Chauncey. When coaches have asked him to be a scorer, he's responded. But he said his real strength is taking the step-back 3 when teams leave him open on the P&R.

Mo is going to be the vocal leader we've desperately needed. Millsap has been a leader by example, but the team has needed somoene else. That wasn't Devin's style. Gordon's a bit young and immature to be that voice. KOC hoped Raja would bring toughness. But Raja brought surliness and dissension once his personal goals got in the way. Mo is going to do so much more than just the sum of his stats.

Listening to him especially in the David Locke interview I kept thinking that we have a new smaller Karl Malone on our hands. Southern boy tough guy slightly undersized but makes up with sheer grit and toughness. I wouldn't want to get in his way, that's for sure. (wonder if Hayward has any idea who he was messing with......)

See my new sig. Mo was asked about it and after he responded, you can hear KOC in the background (full audio is near the end of the press conference at about the 12:50 mark).

Now imagine if he can have some of that toughness rub off on Favors, Hayward, etc. They don't need to be dirty players, just have a little more swagger, and as Mo said "balls to the wall" attitude.
