i'd do al for their unprotected 1st in 2013.
When someone else quoted this I skimmed through and at first glance thought I saw:
i'd do al ... unprotected...
But I'm glad my eyes deceived me.
i'd do al for their unprotected 1st in 2013.
i'd do al ... unprotected...
Here in Houston here is my general sense of what the fans want:
-Kevin Martin gone- everyone thinks he gave up last season and McHale hates him
-Curious to see if Lin and Asik can live up to their contracts
-Lamb, Motiejunas and Royce White are potential stars
-Patterson is available
-Marcus Morris is really, really available
-T. Jones has not been noticed by the general fan base
-Every one is still stunned that Scola is gone for nothing.
Everyone is expecting a really bad season and hoping for a great draft pick
If we were willing to take Kevin Martin we probably could get a draft pick Marcus Morris or Patterson or T. Jones or Motiejunas. I believe Lamb and White are off limits.
So if we make a trade with Houston it probably has to be a 3 team deal.
Out of their young players I like T. Jones and Lamb. I would take a chance on Royce White figuring out how to shoot at the right price.
Atlanta was also developing a plan to get Howard by clearing Johnson's salary off the books. That is most likely now a pipe dream for them. There is some merit now on Jefferson to Atlanta I think, as they have hinted at wanting to play the smaller Horford at PF for a long time. If Big Al gets traded I think it will surely be to Houston or Atlanta.
Interesting.
Considering how the jazz are presently constituted, I'd rather have TJones than White.
i'd probably rather have jones than white, too. i want nothing to do with martin, though. that's why i thought to pull in toronto, a team that has more PGs than it needs and nobody who does what kevin martin does.
not sure how atlanta works as a trade partner. i don't remember them as having tons of assets, other than cap flexibility.
with what salary coming back?
Houston, you can have our problem.
I didn't do my research but I figured after clearing out every single decent player they had other than Martin, they were way under the cap and a returning Rocket wouldn't be necessary.
Every summer, GM Daryl Morey goes all out in an attempt to lasso a star. And every summer, he falls just short.
Two years ago, he made a strong pitch to Chris Bosh. In December, Morey almost landed Pau Gasol, only to see commissioner David Stern crush his hopes. He then went to Plan B, Marc Gasol, only to have his efforts thwarted by the Grizzlies. This year, Morey is chasing Dwight Howard like a dog chases a squirrel. He might catch him eventually, but his huge collection of middling assets hasn't been enough to persuade the Magic to pull the trigger on a trade ... yet.
Jefferson isn't getting traded. The whole off-season was based on getting shooters to complement him.
Besides, he's an expiring contract. A team like Houston isn't going to build around him for one season. His value would be to a contender - if a big gets hurt - or to a team wanting to dump salaries for next summer.
I recall that the talks the jazz had with Houston leading up to the draft was the prefer millsap to Jefferson. I could be wrong. I want t jones.
Why would they trade away good prospects or picks to get him for a year? It's not like they're going to the playoffs. They have the option of bidding for him as a FA in 2013 just like every other team. Sure, there's a bit of an advantage to having his rights (5-yr contract vs. 4), but not enough to warrant giving up good assets.um... read what i just wrote. that's EXACTLY his value to houston. they can have him for a yr so they don't come away with nothing, and then they hve the option of resigning him or of trying at the class of 2013 free agents.
