What's new

24 year old first overall pick available in free agency!

The best thing for Oden is finding a team that doesn't need his abilities right away. A team that can be patient with him to see if he will get back to a semblance of his former self. A team that would not need him to play heavy minutes.

That team is us.

I wonder if the German therapy that was performed on Kobe, A-Roid, and now Bynum could also help Oden.

I'm under the impression that Oden's issues are much more fundamental. Like, he needs to be considering wheelchair basketball fundamental.

Only ONE way he gets healthy. Sign with the Lakers. Then he'll magically heal and become better than ever.

He should seriously do a consultation with the entire Suns medical team. They made Grant Hill an NBA player again.

Because I know it can't happen I'm having a basketball fantasy of Oden. In my fantasy he is healthy of course and that big muscular body of his is moving quickly and with great purpose. His strength and athleticism would be out of this world as he implements his mixture of power and grace. Oh man... would he have taken Dwight to school every time or what?

I have a healthy imagination.

Think Grant Hill. The dude went through 3 teams and never played a full season until he got to Phoenix where he has stayed relatively healthy. It could happen with Oden.

I'm surprised you didn't add, sweat glistening on his body.

So, something like this:

It's the off season. Oden and Howard are hiking in the rugged forest that is the Cascadia region of the Oregon wilderness, as they have every year since Oden was drafted. They happen upon a lake, and decide it's time to take a rest. It's quite hot, as it always is in early August, so they decide to take their shirts off and partake in the healing powers of nature. In a moment of innocent familiarity, Dwight cracks a joke about Greg's career. Between the hike thusfar, and the heat, humidity, and the stress he feels about not knowing what his future holds, Greg's just too tired to take his crap. The next thing Dwight remembers is being on the ground. You see, Dwight's physique is nothing short of freakish, but does nothing to help him. He is a toddler in the presence of Oden's amazingly fit 7' 285 lb chiseled body.

They continue to wrestle. Instead of the sun replenishing their energy and drying themselves, it just makes the moisture on their already dripping skin heavier. Oden dominates Dwight. It's not even close.. tank vs dixie cup. Oden knows he has the upper hand, and thoroughly enjoys it. around the 20 minutes mark he can feel Dwight slowly giving up.

But Oden hasn't had his fill yet. Between the god-like feeling of power from overpowering who is widely considered the greatest center in the NBA today, and the simple intimate touch of a respected colleague, this is his Nirvana. He feigns weakness and allows Dwight to get the upperhand, only to take it back a moment later. He makes it last for the next 90 minutes, dominating the Laker center.

They stop fighting, both mildly exhausted. Or atleast Greg thought.. he looked over at his friend to find D12 passed out. Greg goes to take a closer look and discovers Dwight is just sleeping soundly. Greg feels bad that he has run his friend into exhaustion, and continues to look over his nemesis to discover during their bout he has managed to give Dwight a black eye. Not wanting the press to get wind of any altercations, Greg shreds his shirt, and covers the shreds with the camomile lotion and lavendar oil(both of which he keeps on him at all times). He then gets the emergency kit out of his fanny pack for the plastic , wraps the cloth in the plastic and places it in the lake. Twenty minutes later, the shreds of what used to be his shirt are now ice cold. He takes them out and places them over Dwights eye, to keep the swelling down. Dwight moves a little, but still doesn't wake up. Greg decides he should probably rest too. He lays down, and shuts his eyes.

He opens his eyes only to see the sun setting. It's too far a hike to make it back to civilization tonight, so he breaks the emergency kit out again and finds the matches. After a long search for some firewood, Greg comes back to camp to find Dwight up and about. Greg gets his apology.

They're both hungry, but they only have some fresh water, and no food. Greg gives Dwight that "I got dis" look, and goes to the lake. Dwight doesn't think much of it and prepares to go scavenge for some berries. Before he sets off, he see's Greg standing oddly about 6 feet out in the lake looking straight down. The water is up to his chest. And then, all at once, in one quick agile motion, Greg strikes down and comes back up with a lake trout. He throws the first one to shore and does it again. Greg walks back up the bank as if nothing ever happened.

Dwight fishes his pocket knife out of his pocket and offers to prepare the fish, when he notices something peculiar. The speed and force Greg used killed both of these fish. He sits in awe for a few moments, and then remembers he is still hungry and finishes preparing the fish while Greg started the fire.

That night they shared their Lake trout, and talked about the future. Will Dwight ever get over how physically dominating Greg is? Will anyone ever really know how agile and lightning quick Greg can be? Probably not. But they'll share this memory forever.

That's a beautiful story. I know you plagiarized it from the John Amaechi Leaves of Grass collection, but it's stuning nonetheless.

If he wasnt already 42, it might be worth it.
But seriously, it is sad that we are even talking about even thinking about wanting this broke dick.
Top 3 worst picks ever..and that most people thought so BEFORE they made it makes it that much more funny.

Yeah that was just a fantasy. Real world I don't think he stays healthy enough to keep that school coaching job. Too bad too because he really filled out, and the short periods he was able to play he impressed.

i hope PHX signs him & do miracles (see Nash/Hill) with him. i feel bad & he must be so depressed after every "comeback," he gets another injury... gotta be frustrating/depressing!

yeah yeah he's got millions but he's still human and with all that hype, must feel even worse!!

That would be a good thing for him.
There's just something about PHX's trainers that are able to keep often injured players healthy.

Meh...... on Gary Briggs.

I wouldn't be opposed to signing Oden, however, it would have to be incentive laden with team options in order to protect the Jazz. The signing would be considered a huge gamble. But if you want a ring in a small market you need to swing for the fences sometimes.
