BYU Football 2012

People can talk all they want but it has and never will be about money for BYU. Trust me, they got plenty. They don't need any help from any big boys like Utah does.

Lemme break this down for you knobs:

BYU: Hello?
ESPN: Hey, this is ESPN. We'd like to broadcast a bunch of your games to a national audience. We like your brand.
BYU: Really? That's sweet. But listen we have our own thing.
ESPN: Hey, no problem we will broadcast a bunch of games and you can rebroadcast whenever you want. Plus, you can do whatever you want with your other games.
BYU: That's sweet. How much do we owe you?
ESPN: We'll pay you to make this happen?
BYU: Wait, what? The mountains are making the reception bad because it sounded like you just said you would pay us to make us the next Notre Dame.
ESPN: Ya that's right. And speaking of Notre Dame, we have some people over there. We could grease the wheels a little bit and maybe get a series scheduled?
BYU: Wow! This sounds to good to be true. But sometimes we aren't very good and we even lose to Utah a lot. I know embarassing but true.
ESPN: Who cares about that. Your brand is a great one. Only bigots hate!
BYU: Cool.
ESPN: Ya, we actually have people in Texas and we'll work on that series, too. As a matter of fact, we pretty much have the most pull of any media conglomerate out there. This deal will make us best friends.
BYU: This is frickin sweet! Where do we send the billions of dollars this would be worth.
ESPN: No, don't sweat it. We're actually gonna do all that and we'll pay you millions besides.
BYU: Frickin sweat!

Utah: Hello?
Pac12: Ya, just shutup and listen. We know you guys have been pining for the big boys for centuries. Well, we had a bunch of deals fall through including those punks down and BYU and well we need someone to make it an even 12 and Utah State gave us the finger so we are allowing you guys aboard?
Utah: Hey that is awesome we should negotiate with . . .
Pac12: Listen dooshbags. There will be no negotiating. You are scum and have nothing to offer. You will come into our league but we get most of the profits for the first little while. This is how it was in elementary school and how it is now.
Utah: But that's our money! That's not . . .
Pac12: No it's our money and will always be our money. We'll just share it with you every now and then. Even when you suck we will share it with you.
Utah: I've heard the Pac12 is hard to get on TV.
Pac12: TV deals are of no concern. If your fans are true fans they will travel well and also fill your 10,000-seat stadium. Oh, and that needs to be upgraded by the way. Come to think of it, all your facilities suck and need to be upgraded. So get that done pronto.
Utah: I dunno, this deal seems kinda sketchy.
Pac12: Listen, dickwads. If you think you can get any other conference to play ball with you go ahead. You wanna play ball with us you play by our rules not yours. Know your place and toe the company line.
Utah: We're in.
Pac12: By the way don't lose to Utah State we don't like them.
Utah: Don't sweat that we haven't lost to them in forever.

You know what's crazy... I read this post three times and I got the same result, sour grapes. :)

I'm not surprised it took a Ute fan 3 times to read it. But I am surprised you could read so kudos there. Sour grapes? Ya sure. Give ESPN a call and ask for the same deal and let me know how it goes mmmmkay? I'll take those sour grapes all day long.

Why? We already have a deal with them...

However, the Pac-12's full ownership of national and regional networks that have lined up substantial distribution before their scheduled launch in August, indicates that the conference is on track to generate at least $30 million a school per year over the 12-year term of agreements with ESPN and Fox that begin later this year ($4.3 billion total). Only the money from ESPN and Fox — about $21 million a school per year — is guaranteed, though. And because of the networks' start-up costs the actual per-school revenue the first few years is likely to be well below the projected annual average.

P.S. It's more than 4 million a year...

P.P.S. In Aesop's fable... the fox never enjoys the sour grapes. He just wanders off, lying to himself to make himself feel better.

Of course it's about the money for Utah! Amazing how some holier than thou pricks think that Ute fans should be ashamed of that. Unlike BYU, Utah simply can't pull money out of church coffers whenever they need finances. BYU will NEVER run out of money regardless of what their TV deals look like. And guess what? Who gives a rats ***?

I'm more than content to sit back and enjoy the upward trajectory of the Utah program that I so dearly love. In the 70's and 80's, they were a WAC school who lost to their rival almost yearly and never challenged for conference titles. In the 90's with the McBride era Utah found itself once again competitive against BYU and climbed the ranks in their conference. In the early 2000's, Urban Meyer came along and Utah put themselves ahead of BYU as a program. Something that still has yet to change.

And as we look at the current era, Utah has grown to the point where they at least warranted a phone call from the PAC 12. We can talk about deals that fell through, etc., but when the dust finally settled, Utah found themselves as a PAC 12 program. That was something that was simply unthinkable 15-20 years ago. And Conan, please forgive Utah fans if they don't feel the need to be ashamed of the fact that Utah entered into the PAC not fully vested. Bottom line is, the second they entered the PAC, the money was immediately better than what they were pulling in while in the MTN.

If anything, Utah haters should be terrified about the money Utah is about to be pulling in. Chris Hill and this program pulled itself up from the depths with very little resources over the last 2+ decades. Do you actually think that's going to slow down once Utah's football revenue exceeds $30+ million per year? It also serves as the perfect example as to why no Ute fan should spend one single millisecond worrying about what BYU is or isn't getting from ESPN.

LOL at little brother gettin all sensitive about his money-grubbin ways.

Oh ya and funny how some tools whine about name-calling but are so quick to do it themselves. I don't know of a more hypocritical group then Ute fans.

Again, you don't get it. What a surprise. It's not about the money, Moron. It's about the exposure and Utah will never even sniff the deal BYU has. So go take a dive in your money grinch-style if that makes you feel better but BYU has a greater vision than just dollars.

If you're just being Trollnan, ignore the rest of my post.

Nobody cares which school does or doesn't need the money. What the money trail for byu shows is that byu provides no value to ESPN other than the fact that they are willing to play at any time for basically nothing. It shows byu's football program has no prestige, they got the same deal the mwc and WAC used to have. They provide cheap programming for ESPN, nothing more.

Congrats your football team isn't a football team. It's a mascot for the mormon church and literally nobody but the church cares.

When Toledo plays Marshall on a Thursday night on ESPN do people say "ooooh Toledo got on ESPN. prestige." No. They say "hey I'm board and football is on. Guess I'll watch."

ESPN is just filling air time as cheaply and with the most flexibility possible.

You're by far the most disrespectful poster when it comes to this subject and have been the first to resort to name calling countless times, yet you want to complain when the favor is returned? Truth is, you are a prick, and that's being nice. Hell, I've had PM conversations with a good amount of Cougar fans on this board that have called you worse and can't stand the sight of you posting in Ute/Cougar threads.

Conan: The keyboard warrior who's even hated by his fellow fan base. The beautiful thing about it is, you'll never stop. You can't control yourself. You'll respond to this post with your typical bag of lame *** tricks. A "get your hate" on post, something involving the word "sensitive" or maybe one of those really clever ones in which you choose a small piece of a quote to use out of context. You're a one trick pony. A hack. An idiot.

Deep down, you know all of this, but you just can't seem to stop. It's like you have douchebag tourettes.

Watched the first half by myself...0-0.

Walked to my byu fan neighbors for the 2nd half...Boise starts dominating.

UGLI baby in a room with 7 sad coug fans. Let that stir around in your brain for a bit.
