What's new

Jazz Scrimmage: Oct 6th 4pm MST

Hayward had 26ish points in the two twelve minute quarters and probably looked like the best player on the court. Composed and confident.

Favors was pretty quiet for most of the game, but finished some nice and ones.

Burks struggled at point guard with Tinsley guarding him, but had a sweet reverse windmill dunk at the end of the game.

Kanter moved more quickly, finished on the break and showed some decent range on his jumpshot. Still looked a bit baffled about what to do when faced with a double in the post.

Murphy shot well, but made some poor decisions at the end of the game.

Foye played decently. Had some nice passes, hit some shots, and had a couple good moves to the basket.

Marvin was also pretty quiet, but ran off screens well and managed to sneak away from Hayward (who was guarding him) for a couple buckets.

Millsap didn't play much, not many comments on him.

Evans missed a lot of free throws, but had one really nice pass to a baseline route.

Big Al and Mo sat out.

The scrubs were scrubs. Darnell Jackson had a couple decent finished in traffic.

Boone said that Tinsley is playing the best in camp. Marvin Williams, and Foye also playing very well. Hayward is playing at a very high level.

Also mentioned Burks played some poing guard in camp, and played well there.

Just got done with scrimmage game , had soo much fun . Can't wait for the real thing. COME ON UTAH LET'S GET THIS PARTY STARTED BABY!!!

Sweet christ that was the worst attempt at the worm ever.

Kanter does seem a lot more comfortable now though, which is awesome. Still like the way Jefferson laughs at him. It looks like he is suffering from a severe case of 2nd hand embarrassment every time Kanter does something.

Yeah I agree. Kanter is a naive but excited and happy little kid who will only bring good energy to the team. Good part is, he doesn't get embarrased at all on those kind of occasions. Worm was bad but he dances better than me now. Especially when you think how tough it must be to move that body.

Good to hear Murphy was hittings shots. I expect nothing out of him now or in the future. Anything he gives us is icing.

also this tweet from Earl.

Best fans in the NBA! #jazz #priceless #thanks"

Thank you. We know we are great.

I think Murphy will have a NBA career. I like what I saw from him in SL, and it sounds like he did good tonight.

I'm gonna butt the pillow now. I hope I see the scrimmage video on youtube tomorrow. Or else. Or else what? Exactly.

Enes looked pretty quick and suprisingly nimble on the fast break dunks. I thought murphy looked better than Burks when I was there, kind of a bittersweet feeling.

My take on the scrimmage: Hayward stood out the most on both ends of the floor and was the best player by far. Kanter had 5 or 6 dunks on fast break and ran the floor very well and looks much more explosive and quick but still seemed to be quite strong. Kanter also was called for alot of fouls. The dunk kanter missed that was talked about earlier in the thread was because of a bad pass on the 3 man weave drill and he was too far under the hoop running full speed out of bounds and missed a very difficult dunk.
Murphy looked really good early on but cooled off at the end.
Burks didn't even attempt a shot in the first half (12 minutes) then near the end of the game with about 5 minutes left he had an and one basket in the lane, then with the score tied at 55 with about 1 minute left hayward drove the lane and kicked out to burks for a corner 3 that he made to pretty much win the game. Then burks had a very nice windmill dunk right at the end. So burks was 3 for 3 from the field with a 3 pointer and 1 for 1 from the line.
Favors looked good when he wanted to but seemed like he was just kind of letting the other guys get thiers.

I was most impressed with hayward by far and 2nd most impressed by kanter, with murphy a close 3rd place. Burks played ok but he was just mostly bringing the ball up and getting the team into the offense and not really trying to score.

Also about Kanter: Everyone (the media, trainers, jazz bear, fans, jazz dancers, teammates) seems to love being around Kanter. Everyone seems to always want to talk to him or joke with him and he is always smiling and laughing and entertaining everyone.... I felt like kanter was the star of the scrimmage in general due to a combination of his energy, personality and his improved athleticism.

One more thing. As far as conditioning: Big Al seemed to be pretty tired just from lay up drills and stretching (he didn't even participate in some of the drills).
Hayward played terrific but i did notice him getting pretty tired during the scrimmage, partly due to the fact that he was playing harder than alot of other guys and he has put on some muscle.
Kanters conditioning was great, and he never seemed to get tired.
Burks and favors seemed to not get tired but they were not playing as hard as some of the other guys.

And demare carroll was doing his typical stuff: playing good defense, diving into the crowd for loose balls, and hustling all while not really having any talent to play at this level.

Oh and jeremy evans can jump really high

Enes is quickly becoming one of my favourite players.

Ya i walked away from the scrimmage just more excited than ever about the future four.... but kanter kind of stole the show today.
I have always liked the decision to draft kanter and i thought he played ok last year, but today he did alot to win me over even more.
