What's new

October 22nd - UTAH JAZZ @ portland trailblazers (8pm MST)

I agree, foj. Lillard looks like a star, and one would have to be an idiot to not consider moving Burks for him. I just find it comical when guys like kk or qman (makes mistakes consistently on defense) pull stuff out of their asses, the same things you could accuse anybody on the team of, in order to validate their points.

I find it laughable when you give guy a pass because other people also make mistakes. By your logic, CJ "Chucker" Miles should still be here because everyone takes bad shots and makes mistakes on D.

I'm not giving him a pass for anything. I'm just not going to criticize him or even compliment him for that matter for things I have no clue how he does comparative to other players on the team. Burks might do less stupid, selfish, things than anybody on the team or he might do more of that than anybody on the team. What I know is that neither you or I have a damn clue which is the case or if he's somewhere in the middle.

Lillard looks like Monta Ellis, meh. If he can develop a better overall game and prove to be a consistent shooter, he might be better.

I dont think its that hard of a thing to watch the games and see who is screwing up the most. I know there were a lot of times last year when burks would do something and I would cringe, more so than Hayward, more so than Sap, and Al, less than CJ, maybe less than Howard .... you get the idea. Just watch and you can tell when its a bad shot or getting beat on d. I dont think its impossible to figure out.

if burks can maintain his shooting through the season, it will be impossible to keep him on the bench. He has been our best shooter so far (never thought i'd say that when we drafted him) ---

FG- 23/45 (51%, 6.4 attempts per game)
3PT - 6/8 (75%, 1.14 attempts per game)
FT - 14/24 (54%, 3.4 attempts per game --> almost 7 attempts/36mins) -----This % really needs to come up

When your best skill is getting to the line and you cant hit a free throw, thats not good.

it still puts pressure on the defense by getting players out of the game in foul trouble, changing their tactics by not wanting to pressure as hard because they don't want to pick up another, it leads to penalty situations giving free points to anyone who gets fouled, and still creates high percentage opportunities for points (freethrows).

Fouls and foul drawing is, IMO, one of the MOST important skills to have in today's NBA. EVERY player who is something great in this league possesses this skill.

Its definitely underappreciated

You're right in that it's an underappreciated skill, but it's just more appreciated when it results in more points from the FT line.

KennyKyle putting on a clinic for how to take an unproductive dump all over everything............................. and all for a preseason game.

Watch the next game to see what Burks does off the ball on D. He is really bad when the ball is in the post. He drifts away from his man even if it is Ginobili or any other excellent outside shooter. IMO Burks doesn't under how to cut down passing angles by being the correct position.

Compare Burks to what Marvin Williams or Hayward does off the ball on D.

Everybody makes mistakes on D. From what I have seen Burks makes them more often.

very true, just saying in rebuttal to Kenny that even if he only hits 50%, he is still putting points on the board and still providing all those other benefits

Obviously getting to the line and drawing fouls is a great asset, but only hitting 50% is not acceptable for a 2 guard in the NBA. Its not like he is an uncouth monster like Dwight Howard. He knows how to shoot the ball. I have no doubt he will end the season in the 70% range although getting up to 85% soon should be expected.

NAOS - I didn't know saying a shooting guard should be able to hit a free throw was taking a dump on something. If it is then I will be ****ting away though.

I disagree. He isnt monte ellis. Its not close either. Lillard is going to be a Chris Paul, Deron Williams type. He will average 9+ assists a game easily in his career. He had 8 assists last night, but he didnt show just how good he is passing.

As far as your concern about him not being consistent from outside. I am not sure where you pulled that out of your ***, but he has an excellent outside shot. He was 3/4 from 3 just last night. Trust me, he will be fine from outside.

In defense of Cyrone, he didn't say he was an inconsistent shooter, he just said he needs to prove he is consistent. Different things. You cant prove you are a consistent shooter in 7 pre season games. After 1 year if he is still shooting around 40 - 45 % from 3 then he will be labeled as a consistent shooter. Chill the **** out. You and seattle are dramatic.

It is not ideal, but it's still more effective per-possession than a FG attempt and you're racking up a foul on the other team. He's also certainly better at the line as that % is a complete anomaly.

But please, keep whining.

You guys are right, 50% is cool. He is drawing fouls, no need to get the extra easy points.
