What's new

Mormon Temple ceremony.

What would MM have to do woth paranoia? That's a strecth of laughable proportions.

I'd say the paranoia would be that if non-LDS settlements in the area grew it would once again threaten the safety of the church members and they might ultimately lose the towns/cities they had created.

The train was on it's way to California, not to settle in Utah, and the attackers knew this. And they were close to the border exiting Utah ... and just so happened to be one of the richest wagon trains to traverse to the west coast during those times. I'm not being hateful, just saying the paranoia thing doesn't hold water for me.

I'll re-state my position here, though. In my opinion, bad men were involved in this massacre, the church was not.

I agree with this.

I'm going to step back from this thread for today. I feel like I'm getting a little too confrontational and its really not my intent to offend LDS people.

I'm not trying to be confrontatinoal and I apologize if I am being a dick. I enjoy religious debate, especially with someone who isn't an ***. I have enjoyed this thread a lot actually.

I'm with Kennykyle. I do not feel you have been that way. I give you more credit than that.

Umm, so is that the kind of interest there is on this message board? Or is that not important?

I personally don't think "souls" exist, so I don't have any interest in saving them either temporarily or for eternity.

JWs reach out.

Do you not think that JWs are routinely criticised and generally disliked by followers of other religions? I think the difference might be that JWs, as far as I know, didn't found any major cities in the U.S. that they still largely control (if not through direct church influence then by the influence they have on their large number of followers).

Exactly. I would say most non-LDS on this board don't like talking about LDS stuff because they are thinking of becoming a member.

Right, and you're not here because you're thinking of becoming an atheist either, are you?

Well, now you are changing the context of the discussion. Which is fine. But originally the point was the negative attention comes from LDS reaching out. I gave an example of another religion that reaches out and doesn't get near the negative attention. But now you want to go conspiracy theory and say the LDS runs SLC. That's a completely different argument.

Conspiracy? Come on now. Dominate culture is not a conspiracy theory.

That last part before the accusations was a pretty decent conversation.

Can we leave it at that and not start pointing fingers?

Gameface, can we make a deal. When we both have died, if we are still around and have souls I can teach you what I believe. If we are both gone and there is nothing, you can teach me about nothing(as in no soul/life after we die).

Fair?

No, not fair. I have many views on the world we live in, the people who live in it and what the meaning of life is. Nothing has nothing to do with it.

nothing was a poor choice of words, I attempted to fix it, but too late.

It was also supposed to be sort of a joke, but it didn't pan out when out of my head. :(
