OFFICIAL: Trade Deadline Thread

^^^^I love Thompson for the Jazz. At 5 Million per, and his abiltiy to play either postion if he needed.....trouble is what else will Sac. make jazz take back? Salmons? Thorton? Garcia? ugh.

Other problem is with a battle over being sold, and fighting among majority and minority owners, I don't think Sacto will be active at teh trade deadline.

Jazz essentially lose all their salary relief bargaining chips on Feb 22. (Bell, Watson, Tinsley, Mo Williams, Foye, DeMare, Milsap, and Jefferson) Doubtful that Sacto will be resolved by then.

Flexibility can't dribble, pass or shoot.

Which is why I was wondering if the Kings who are in rebuild mode would just take Marvin, opening up minutes for TRob, as long as the Kings don't play Marvin maybe he opts out of the player option he has.

KOC Feb 4th
KOC in studio with Spence Checketts-18:56
KOC missed Jazz at Portland because he was at a college game.
Specketts: You’re 48 games in you know who you are now right?
KOC: Right.
Specketts: So who are you?
KOC: We still don’t know.
KOC: Injury to Mo….yada yada yada….let’s wait until the end of February.
######

At about 17:14
Specketts: February 21st is right around the corner….
KOC: Yea, ,what is that…
Specketts: Just a day, first day of spring or somethingTrade deadline….
KOC: 7 days after valentines, right.
Speckets: So Imagine the phone is ringing quite a bit these days?
KOC: Yea, they certainly are, and you certainly listen and you certainly initiate. And I don’t think anybody does anything until they have to. Uh, and so a lot of times deals don’t get done until close to the 21st.
Specketts: Its probably safe to say that there is no way you are going to sacrifice your long term flexibility or your long term plan for some short term gain.
KOC: I don’t think you want to do that. We’ve fought awfully hard to this position where we have the flexiliblty so that if another team is pinned a little bit and they might need to give up something, and if that happens hopefully we become a beneficiary.

Take this for what it's worth - Right before the lottery when the jazz had not yet gotten the third pick i heard the following (third hand) - that the jazz loved Williams and were going to do whatever they could to get him. Obviously it did not work, but the jazz did really want him at one point. This was said by Randy Rigby to one of the big time corporate big cats who has been seen at away games with jazz higher ups and is good friends with Rigby. This guy then relayed it to my best friend.

Edit- I think everyone wanted Williams at draft time though so this isn't a big deal.

Pshhhhh Randy Rigby. That dude knows more about Les Olson company than about the Jazz.

Probably a complete smokescreen generated by KOC. He's old enough to remember the "loose lips sink ships" slogan. I'm sure he knows Rigby entertains the bigwigs so he's going to feed Randy all kinds of misinformation.

My daughter performed in "The Music Man" this weekend and I've had a hard time getting some of the songs out of my head.
The good news: they're gone now.
The bad news: now this one is driving me nuts. Thanks a lot, Weezur!

Driving you nuts? Rigby's probably had that song stuck in his head since he was a baby.

Just thought that I would share the conversation that was just had on twitter.

Spencer Ryan Hall ‏@saltcityhoops
DeMarre Carroll has the Jazz' highest #82games player rating. https://www.82games.com/1213/1213UTA.HTM … #MILatUTA pic.twitter.com/rMpkQbQc

Brett Preston ‏@b_preston
@saltcityhoops at least there is one starter in the top five. Seems about right.

Benjamin Smith ‏@Benjiman31
@b_preston @saltcityhoops Shhhhhhh! We don't want the Jazz or Coach Corbin to know!

Brett Preston ‏@b_preston
@Benjiman31 @saltcityhoops I’m no coach, but I stand by my theory of playing your best players the most minutes.

Brett Preston ‏@b_preston
@Benjiman31 @saltcityhoops and not just play a guy because he can “get a shot off” and “doesn’t turn the ball over”

Spencer Ryan Hall ‏@saltcityhoops
@b_preston @benjiman31 After a conversation last night, I'm convinced the Jazz are in full "free agent showcase" mode.

Brett Preston ‏@b_preston
@saltcityhoops @Benjiman31 that gives me hope. Conversation I had with myself said they are resigning both Paul and Al.

Spencer Ryan Hall ‏@saltcityhoops
@b_preston @benjiman31 Ha ha, it's surprisingly possible. Still think one goes by the deadline.

Benjamin Smith ‏@Benjiman31
@b_preston @saltcityhoops I had that same conversation with myself and and then I woke up in a cold sweat!

Spencer Ryan Hall ‏@saltcityhoops
@Benjiman31 @b_preston That was the gist of the conversation. Their sales people can't sell this team. Something has to change.

Brett Preston ‏@b_preston
@saltcityhoops @Benjiman31 already told my sales rep I’m canceling after eight years. They try and sell the young guys, but don’t play them

Benjamin Smith ‏@Benjiman31
@saltcityhoops @b_preston I understand they are human beings but that is the best news I've heard in weeks. Thanks for sharing.

Spencer Ryan Hall ‏@saltcityhoops
@b_preston @benjiman31 I spent most of the game with my head in my hands. It was laughable.

Brett Preston ‏@b_preston
@saltcityhoops @Benjiman31 but just think how much Favors and Kanter are learning from watching last nights finish

Spencer Ryan Hall ‏@saltcityhoops
@b_preston @benjiman31 Ha ha, it's literally impossible to calculate.

I would say overall that this is progress. I just hope that more people are doing the same thing.

Good stuff Orange.

When do they start asking for season ticket renewals?
Maybe the empty seats and the sales team reports finally got Mama's attention. Ever since the empty Pacers game I have noticed a subtle change in the Jazz's radio station. They are talking more and more about budgets, Jazz being frugal, the set up for next year.....quietly suggesting that a trade will happen.

I saw tickets on Stub hub for $1 for the Wednesday game against the Bucks. Lower bowl for $6.

KOC wants to make sure he has the flexibility to max out Al this summer.

That being said, if he does, he should be gone. He would have two top 3 picks that didn't develop/pan out (as evidenced by the incredibly minute amount of minutes they are receiving at this point in their careers) and he couldn't turn 8 expiring contracts into anything.

I have loved the guy so far...this is his defining moment. If this team looks anything like how it looks now come next Oct, I'll change my name to KOCbegone.

The only thing that might make him do that is a deep playoff run. It doesn't look remotely possible now but once Mo gets back and if the Jazz start clicking, he may consider bringing Al back (although not at max). If the Jazz are swept again in the first round or miss the playoffs, Al is gone for sure I suspect.

The Jazz might have a puncher's chance in a series against the Clippers or Grizzlies, but we'd have to move up in the seeding. Otherwise, making the playoffs will extend our season basically one week.

Its not about extending, its about revenue. 1 playoff game~1 Million.
