I want Bledsoe. I’d be excited if we made the trade. However, I would not be too disappointed if we didn’t. I’m not positive that Bledsoe is my top choice for our future PG.
Should we stand pat at the deadline, our depth chart looks (…or should) like this the rest of the way:
PG: Williams/Burks/Tinsley
SG: Foye/Burks/Hayward
SF: Hayward/Carroll/Marvin
PF: Millsap/Favors/Marvin
C: Jefferson/Kanter/Favors
That team should cruise to the playoffs. Come this offseason, I’d like us to re-sign Sap, Mo, and Foye, and let Al walk. Then we package our two firsts and draft Burke or McCollum (my preference is McCollum).
Next season, our lineup looks like this:
PG: Williams/McCollum
SG: Burks/Foye
SF: Hayward/Marvin
PF: Millsap/Favors
C: Favors/Kanter
…that’s a damn good top nine without ANY additional FA acquisitions or players traded for, which is incredibly unlikely given the cap flexibility we’ll have after we let Al walk. Plus, we’d open up lots of PT for every member of the big 4 and (hopefully) have our PG of the future learning behind Mo for a season or two.
It’s not sexy, but it’s a pretty sound and executable plan to build towards the next few years. I’d be really happy if this played itself out.
…having said that, let’s go get Bledsoe.
