Mahoney had three good points that he didn't drive home in the podcast (I wonder why?):
Because Locke yammers on endlessly & add so much unnecessary fluff that people tune him out.
1. There are obviously player combinations that have worked, otherwise the jazz wouldn't be where they are, but what are they? Why are they one the floor so few minutes?
Answered. Jazz have one way players.
2. If players like Corey Brewer can work in Denver as drive-and-dish guys, then maybe Utah isn't using players like Burks effectively? The Utah offense has been Meh, period.
Answered. Corey Brewer is shooting 29%. Denver has an athletic guy at each position. Jazz have Burks and no point guard.
Besides, Corbin has used drive and dish in situations like the last OKC game. I enjoyed that game more than many others. However, I can't use confirmation bias to claim Corbin's an idiot for not doing it all season while forgetting about player growth. Hayward has made big strides this season, IMO.
3. Defensive schemes aren't playing to the individual players' strengths.
David Locke explained Corbin's ongoing defensive adjustments.
One thing fans don't realize is how many mistakes Derrick Favors makes on the defensive end. He's a great help defender but still has a ton to learn before being part of a tight nit stopper. His rotations and pnr flashes are quite often as bad as Jefferson's are. Claiming that the defense would be top notch by simply inserting Favors is mental laziness IMO.
