Here is what I would do:
Calderon (2 years 20 million), Watson/Gibson/Mills/Brooks (1 yr 3 million), rookie pg (2.5 million) - 15 million total - 12.5 million in 2014
Hayward (5 million), Burks (2 million) - 7 million total - 3.2 million in 2014
Carroll (3 yrs, 9 million), Marvin (7.5 million) - 10 million - 3 million in 2014
Favors (6 million), Landry (3 yrs, 12 million), Evans (1.5 million) 12 million - 5 million in 2014
Kanter (5 million), Jason Collins (1 year 3 million) - 6 million - 6 million in 2014
That means you spend 50 million in 2013, with the ability to add a max player through trades if the right deal comes along -AND-
30 million on the books in 2014 with these players under contract:
Calderon - rookie PG
Burks
Carroll
Landry/Evans
Kanter
That leaves you 40 million for players. 10 for Hayward, 10 for Favors, 15 for a big FA signing and 5 million to fill in the roster.
Also, in 2015, you have Burks, Evans, Calderon, and others coming off the books to make room for Kanter getting a max deal.
Then you have spent wisely and tied your title hopes to Hayward, Favors, Kanter, and one other max player. If that doesn't work out, then you blow it all up, suck for a couple years and try again.
