Following potential 2013 draftees

Maybe he just flat out sucks. Like in practice other players play better than him, so they play in front of him kind of sucking. Not the "I have a ****ty attitude" kind of suck that gets reported about.

I would take him. It's not like I would deny him on my team because of his suckage (simply just because he is young though), but the fact remains that he sucks. I'd take Jones or Motienjuas before though due to their ability to stretch the floor better.

From what I have seen- he has questionable shot selection and hasn't figured out how he can play NBA defense. His jumper is weak. He lacks great length for the 4 position so he needs to play defense intelligently. He isn't much of post guy.

I believe Sacramento killed him because no one was setting him up. He is not a shot creator at this point.

Houston needs bigs who can shoot from mid-range/3 pt line.

Note:
He is just slightly bigger than Millsap. And really he needs to follow Millsap's career path- rebounding is his primary skill.

Back on the original topic, I would strongly consider Jones but I consider Monty too soft to play regular NBA minutes.

The problem with a sign and trade is that Millsap under the new CBA gets no benefit. He would get the same contract either way. Potentially we would still do it to clear some more cap space for Houston.

So any deals for the young PF's would likely be separate deals.

I thought since the jazz own millsaps bird rights they can offer larger pay increases over the length of the contract?

I don't think that's true any more under the new CBA. The only incentive a player has to agree to a S&T is if he want's to be traded to a team that is over the cap. Houston is not over the cap.

We can offer a 5th year and greater salary increases.

Sign and trade players are limited to 4 years.

91. Why would teams or players want to do a sign-and-trade?

Teams benefit because they can get something in return for players they would otherwise lose to free agency. For players the benefits are limited. Under previous CBAs a player who qualified could receive a full Bird contract and go to the team of his choice, which encouraged the player to seek a sign-and-trade once he decided to play elsewhere. Under the current CBA a player receives the same contract via sign-and-trade (four years, 4.5% raises) that he could get by signing with his new team directly, and can receive a larger Bird contract only if he stays with his previous team. In addition, it is much simpler for the player to sign directly with his new team, as a sign-and-trade has to be agreed to by three parties rather than two. A player is really only forced to seek a sign-and-trade if he wants to go to a team that is capped-out (or doesn't have enough cap room to give the player his full starting salary) and can't sign him directly.

Another factor encouraging a player not to seek a sign-and-trade is that his new team might be weakened by losing players or draft picks in the trade. So while a sign-and-trade is a useful tool when the team does not have the cap room to sign the player directly, the player and his new team have little reason to seek a sign-and-trade when the player can be signed without involving his previous team.

Would we take this guy if he fell to #14 or is he another Curtis Borchardt?

"Potential lottery pick Alex Len of Maryland had surgery to stabilize stress fracture in his ankle and will be out 4-6 months, his agent says".

Tough blow for Alex Len. A lot of lottery teams intrigued with 7-footer; will be intriguing to see which might still draft him so high.

That Len news is bad and this draft was bad enough already. I projected Len as rising up the boards into the 4-7 range after workouts in Chicago. Now ???

Just for fun lets check his Jazz draft potential:

Bigman, can't teach height--Check
Plays a position already loaded--Check
Bigman with injured foot--Check
Euro who played at US University--Check

Sounds like we have ourselves a Jazzman!

Jazz have two picks, and are tanking next season, therefore they can take a risk.
LOVE him at 21.
Intrigued enough to consider at 14.
I wouldn't be suprised to learn that KOC told him to break a bone in his foot to make sure he slipped on draft day. ;)

would you take him at 21?

Depends on who else is there and how he does in workouts and interviews. I think I might rank him above Karasev though. He's got a pretty complete game and is a solid athlete for a wing. He looks like he could be an Aaron Afflalo-type SG.
