Dennis Lindsey on Talkin Sports

Sad part is Toronto would've drafted Barnes and the Jazz would've been left with the choice of yet another high-ceiling project big or nobody worth writing home about.

You mean the draft that yielded no trades in the entire draft? And the Kings were looking to move down and snag Lillard, even though they knew that they were the last chance for Lillard to not end up being a Trailblazer?

That was an interesting interview. I like how Dennis a little more forthcoming than Kevin was. He seems to be a very level headed guy, and that he is obviously highly influenced by the system that he was molded under in San Antonio. I get the sense that he feels if Favors can improve offensively, that he can be our Duncan. I'm not convinced that Derrick gets there, I see him more as a hybrid of Kenyon Martin and Tyson Chandler. He seems to really like Gordon Hayward, and what's not to like, Gordon fits that San Antonio system mold perfectly. He is our Ginobili. For some reason, I don't think he's exactly sold on Kanter, even though at this point Kanter is probably the most poised to become a star out of the "core four." No mention of Burks was somewhat disconcerting, and he seemed to allude to the fact that we can't keep all four guys intact. But trading Burks for say...Eric Bledsoe doesn't make that commitment any easier.

I get the feeling from that interview the Jazz are going to try and make a huge splash this summer. If they don't, they'll pull back, take on a years worth of salary from another team to try and get to the cap minimum. I think as Lindsey was building up some of our free agents, he seemed to be doing so in a sense that he maybe looking for a S&T rather than bringing them back.

I did not get the impression that he likes Ty Corbin. He payed him a couple compliments during the interview, but it sounds like he is gone after this season barring a major turn of events next season.

The way that the KOC situation played out was very bizarre. It seems as if the Jazz organization was looking to go in a different direction, and wanted to use this situation with a copious amount of cap space and options to do so. I am obviously speculating, and possibly reaching but it seems like they didn't want another summer of status quo which was very possible under O'Connor. Lindsey seems to be a "Chris Paul and all in" or play the kids in hopes that they shock us with their ability to win or worst case scenario we get another talented young piece. It finally appears like we will no longer have a team built for stagnation.

The odds would have been against us, but who knows. Have you seen the butterfly effect? **** happens.

If you are talking about Mark Eaton, he retired in like 94. If he would have been 10 years younger, I bet we threepeat. Seriously, the guy was awesome on defense. He was DPOY, led the league in blocked shots. That team would have been awesome with all three of those guys in their prime.

Actually, I thought he meant Ostertag.

It's too bad Ostertag didn't take things more seriously. He could've been that defensive anchor had he been more consistent. Every once in a while he looked every bit the defender Eaton was.

I was referring to Eaton, who was 7'4". Ostertag, to a lesser extent, could somewhat be considered a 'defensive anchor'. He wasn't getting PT for his offense.

I think Lindsey wants to keep Corbin so we can guarantee us a top 3 pick next year. If a good coach would get us in the 6-9 range, Corbin should get us bottom three.

OStertag was dominant at times. particularly when playing for his contract. Most of the time, however, his demeanor matched the tattoo on his ankle.

Between Eaton and Ostertag everyone complained that if we could just have a center with offense we'd be happy. Then we had Memo and everyone was complaining that we needed a shot blocker. Now we have somewhat of a hybrid and he can't get off the bench. Awesome.

I thought you meant Al. He shoots as well as Memo, just not the range, and blocks shots at rate that is 5th all-time for Jazz Men.

Blocks Per Game
1. Mark Eaton 3.5
2. Andrei Kirilenko 2.0
3. Greg Ostertag 1.8
4. Ben Poquette 1.6
5. Al Jefferson 1.6
6. Otto Moore 1.4
7. Derrick Favors 1.4

Eaton and Memo played with entirely different teams, and no meaningful comparison whatsoever can be made between the two situations. I'm not sure what thought process can lead you to post something like that...

That I understand. What I mean is that all the years we had a shot blocking center (adding Ostertag in) everyone complained about the lack of offensive output. Then we got a fairly elite (yes I will say elite considering our past centers) scorer and there was rarely a thread that went by where any guy who could average 1 block per 20 minutes was hailed as a defensive juggernaut. Now we've finally got a guy that plays both ends of the floor and the coach won't let him off the bench.

This thread is the perfect example of how Lindsey answers questions.

A lot of words, some meaty info, but 5 mins into the answer, you realize that he isn't even talking about what you asked him about. But yet, it appeases the masses.

Does "green" mean "young, naive, and stupid"?
