Jazz will offer something like 10-12 mill, Someone else in the league will be dumb enough to give him 14-15 mill.

In all honesty, I would not re-sign Jefferson for the league minimum. This is a clear case to me of addition by subtraction. Same way Golden State got much better after getting rid of Monte Ellis (another high volume, low efficiency shooter/scorer and poor to mediocre defender). The absolute ceiling with Al as a centerpiece is 7-8 seed. We can make up his points elsewhere and at a higher efficiency rate, while we no longer have him in the middle absolutely killing our defense. I gotta believe that the Jazz FO see this and that they won't make any more than a token effort (even token effort too much) to resign him.

It's the Patrick Ewing rule. Teams are always better after a guy like that leaves. Knicks were better without Ewing, made the finals finally. Denver after Marshmello Anthony went on a tear. We will be better after getting rid of Jefferturd. He is holding up the offense, and killing the defense.

How could a guy who plays no D and makes everyone around him worse be the best 6th man in the league? Yes, he can score, but the rest of his games more than makes up for that, in the worst way.

Bea cause off the bench those concerns don't matter as much. He plays no D against scrubs who find it hard to score, and his ability to score more than makes up for it.

The problem is, a lot of his minutes would come against starters. He'd still get 30 mins as the 3rd big (96 mins/3 players = 32 each). And either Kanter or Al would be playing PF for half their mins. I don't like that scenario. Far better off, IMO, signing a good young PF. Then you can slide Favors to C for some of his PT when Kanter is on the bench.

Mo Mo double down. Just say no to Mo' ****a.

You just listen to the old Pork Chop Express here now and take his advice on a dark and stormy night when the lightning’s crashing and the thunders rolling and the rain's coming down in sheets thick as lead. Just remember what ol' Franklin does when the Earth quakes and the poison arrows fall from the sky and the pillars of heaven shake. Yeah Frank just looks that big ol storm right square in the eye and he says 'gimmie your best shot pal, I can take it.’”

1) The Patrick Ewing Phenomenon is short-term, not season-long.
2) The Knicks made the finals with Ewing, and lost to Houston, IIRC.
3) I agree Denver was better, but I don't know if that will apply to Jeffersonlessness.

In the adjusted +/- that GVC linked to a couple of months ago, Jefferson was second behind Millsap.

I find it odd that its rarely mentioned that if we resign Al we will lose either Favors or Kanter. Its not just that they will come off the bench, one of them will be gone when their contract is up. I know most people want him gone for a lot of reasons, but to me, the biggest is losing one of Favors or Kanter. Favors and Kanter will both command 10 mil plus. You can't have three big men paid that much. Do the same goes for Millsap. We can't sign him either. It will be idiotic if they do.

I've brought this up a lot. No one likes to face reality.

I hope you are right. I think it would be idiotic to re-sign either one, regardless of the contract situation but that makes it even more idiotic.

If Jefferson is worth a big salary, we won't re-sign him.

If Jefferson is as bad as some posters make him out to be, we won't need a big salary to sign him.

IF we sign Al or Paul to a reasonable contract, then that contract is likely tradeable when we have to re sign/extend Favors and Kanter. I don't think it means we lose Favors and Kanter to sign one of them, it just means that we have a trade chip to stand in the way of our young guys development...

I think the harsh reality for players like Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap is going to be seen in the offseason. Teams are not going to give long term contracts to mid tier talent. Big Al is not getting a raise. In fact, he'll be lucky to find a 3 year contract from any team. Paul Millsap is likely to find that he can't even find a contract better than the one he turned down from the Jazz.

Teams will continue to hand out max contracts to stars. Everyone else is going to be getting the scraps that are left over.

I don't mind if either or both get signed as long as 1) the contracts are for whatever the going rate ends up being, and 2) aren't for more than 2 years.

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Franklin always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."
