oh yeah, you are right. Hype will always win out over all time records in assists and steals.

First of all, he's more of a PG than Burks, imo. His IQ is very high and makes key plays.
Not to mention, that even if the above were untrue.. it would be nice having a 40%+ shooter initiating the offense.. nawtimean?

I'll take your word that he has a high BB IQ, but most of the point guards in the league shoot 40%+ (including Mo). Unless you're talking about 3's, in which case McCollum doesn't qualify. I agree with most of what Hantlers said except I would add that the player has to be smart with the ball. McCollum averages 2.7 APG and 2.4 TO's so that bothers me, and he always seems to be looking for his shot. I'm not down on him because he's a combo guard I just prefer a little more PG and a little less SG. Anyway, I'm just not as sold on him as a lot of people seem to be.

This whole 2 guard stuck in a PG's body is overstated IMO. Russell Westbrook is a SG stuck in a PG's body, so is Derrick Rose. What makes a difference is coaching and the style of offense you run. On today's NBA, a PG needs to be able to shoot/score to run an effective offense. We shouldn't be discrediting a player just because they're a "2 stuck in a 1's body". Get buckets, pass to the open man, and play defense. That's all I want from a PG, he doesn't have to get 8-10 assists to be effective. I'd rather have 3 guys that are capable of 3-5 assists personally.

You'd rather have guys that are capable of putting up 3-5 dimes, and then scoring like all-stars?

Not a bad thought, but let's be honest. McCollum is no Rose, or Westbrook.
Unless we are getting an all-star there we will lose something by having a Mo Williams type out there.

There should be a guy on the floor who looks to get his teammates' shots first, whether that's creating for others or letting them create. Yes, everyone should be able to score, but there is only one ball, and a guy that has the ball in his hands to start almost every position needs to share it. This - moreso than any other motivation or skill - is what makes Lebron so unique as a player, at least in my mind.

This is neither here nor there in regards to prospects, but it is very here and there as it relates to basketball.

Yep my thinking exactly when I started this topic of conversation.

The reason I thought McCollum had to be Curry-good or at least Curry-lite-good at shooting the 3's, is he doesn't seem to have the same handle, athleticism, agility, floor general skills, vision, passing that other top PGs prospects in this draft have. You can hide the lack of those skills somewhat if you can either:

1. Shoot lights out (Curry comes to mind).
2. Elite attacker of the rim & make your living at the line (D.Rose, Westbrook as mentioned above).

But if McCollum are neither of these types, then like Rev said, he'll probably end up being a Mo Williams type - an average scorer who occasionally gets hot, but lacks a real PG skill set at the elite level. That is definitely not someone we want.

If this is the case, then I'd rather take a long HARD look at Schroeder who is a true 1, he looks to pass, he runs the offense, he plays solid defense on his man, and he runs the floor lighting quick. Also everytime I sing Schroeder's praises, I've always followed it up with "provided that his attitude checks out, and his shot is legit" caveat. I know I should do that for every posts I make, but sometimes I just forget.

He played for freaking Lehigh. They needed him to "always" look for his shot. That was his role.

Ok.

Noel
Otto
McLemore
Len
Bennett
Oladipo
Bazz
Burke
CJ
Golbert
Adams
Zeller
Saric
KCP (like his shooting potential reminds me of Ray Allen)
Olynyk
Plumlee

This is my top 16. I have Schroeder lumped in with the likes of Canaan Wolters and Larkin and Pressey I'd go late first on any of them. Other then those 16 all others would be under whelming to me at the 14th pick.
I think rondo was darfted 21.
this draft is horrendous though.

UGLI, are you off the Bongo train now?

So everyone was really into McCollum then Locke did a video on him and now everyone is really down on McCollum? Just goes to show you no one on here actually watches games and usually form baseless opinions then when a little shred of material becomes available it greatly sways their opinion.

Please son. My opinion on him has been the same since day 1. Listen to us, not the other idiots.

The flip from Pro McCollum to Anti McCollum reminds me of the Simpsons. Sorry for the low quality video but it's high quality comedy.
