You'd rather have guys that are capable of putting up 3-5 dimes, and then scoring like all-stars?
Not a bad thought, but let's be honest. McCollum is no Rose, or Westbrook.
Unless we are getting an all-star there we will lose something by having a Mo Williams type out there.
Yep my thinking exactly when I started this topic of conversation.
The reason I thought McCollum had to be Curry-good or at least Curry-lite-good at shooting the 3's, is he doesn't seem to have the same handle, athleticism, agility, floor general skills, vision, passing that other top PGs prospects in this draft have. You can hide the lack of those skills somewhat if you can either:
1. Shoot lights out (Curry comes to mind).
2. Elite attacker of the rim & make your living at the line (D.Rose, Westbrook as mentioned above).
But if McCollum are neither of these types, then like Rev said, he'll probably end up being a Mo Williams type - an average scorer who occasionally gets hot, but lacks a real PG skill set at the elite level. That is definitely not someone we want.
If this is the case, then I'd rather take a long HARD look at Schroeder who is a true 1, he looks to pass, he runs the offense, he plays solid defense on his man, and he runs the floor lighting quick. Also everytime I sing Schroeder's praises, I've always followed it up with
"provided that his attitude checks out, and his shot is legit" caveat. I know I should do that for every posts I make, but sometimes I just forget.
