Jazz will likely have the cap space to bid on amnesty players. If amnestied, which would player would you want? I tried to focus on realistic amnesty options, as I don't think the Lakers will release MWP or ATL will give up Horford.

1. Kendrick Perkins - Veteran Leader and back-up big man to Favors and Kanter
2. Linus Kleiza - Stretch 4; provides something Jazz don't have. Not sure how much game he has left in him, but he has torched the Jazz in the past during his Denver days and that is always a sign for the Jazz's interest in a player
3. Drew Gooden - Same as Perkins, minus the leadership; He can still rebound and I can't see Ty starting him

Special Case
4. Carlos Boozer - For $3-4 million a season, I wouldn't mind seeing him in a Jazz uniform again. It would delay the youth movement, as he would start over Kanter, but he had a strong regular season with the Bulls and stayed healthy. Because of his improved play and impact in leading the injured Bulls to the playoffs, I don't think he will be amnestied, but if he is I would certainly make a bid.

It is basically the strategy that Phoenix and Dallas had last year, as both were aggressive in the amnesty market and both still ended up in the lottery, so the Jazz would be competitive but not at the expense of the youth movement and still be bound for the Wiggins sweepstakes.

If the Jazz want to make the playoffs, sign Boozer.

If they are smart and want to lose, they won't touch Boozer, but sign Gooden instead.

If we wanted Perkins, why not just trade for him and make OKC give us something else for him?

While I agree with this, you could make the argument that getting him off amnesty waivers is more ideal for finances. The correct answer is yet to be seen. If the Jazz can't find good salary to spend then you're correct, and if they find it then you're wrong. Again, I'm definitely inclined to agree, especially since it's one of the few ways you might be able to turn Al's bird rights into an asset.

I'd take any/all 4 if they were cheap (3-4 million max). There is no way Boozer signs anywhere for less than the mid-level.

If he is amnestied, he doesn't have a choice who signs him. It is a bidding process and he goes to the highest bidder. He still gets his full salary; it is just split between the Bulls and whatever the new team bids.

This is the best post I've seen of yours. More of this.
