Following potential 2013 draftees

As I've said before, I would HATE Larkin at 14. I would dislike Larkin at 21.

Let's do a Schroeder vs. Larkin comparison:

Schroeder is 6'2" and Larkin is 5'11", advantage Schroeder by 3 inches.

Schroeder weighs 156 lbs. and Larkin weighs 176 lbs., advantage Larkin by 20 lbs.

Pick and Roll, which player is better at it? Larkin and it's not even close. Larkin is the second best player in this draft at the pick and roll behind McCollum.

Faster, which player is faster? Larkin, but it is pretty close, but Larkin did have the fastest 3/4 court sprint at the combine.

Athletic, which player is more athletic? Larkin, 44-inch vertical says it all pretty much.

Finishing, which player is better? Both of them aren't very good at finishing so it's a tie.

Shooting, which player is better? Tied, both are very good shooters.

Stats? Per 36-minutes:

Dennis Schroeder: 17.3 PPG, 4.6 APG, 3.6 RPG, 1.3 SPG, 3.7 TO's per game, 43% from field, 40% from three, and 83% from free-throw line.

Shane Larkin: 14.5 PPG. 4.6 APG, 3.8 RPG, 2 SPG, 2.3 TO's per game, 48% from field, 41% from three, and 78% from free-throw line.

Points? Schroeder wins. Assists? Tied. Rebounds? Larkin wins. Steals? Larkin wins. Turnovers? Larkin wins. FG%? Larkin wins. 3PT%? Larkin wins. FT%? Schroeder wins.

As you can see, they are VERY similar as far as stats go. Schroeder has a 1.2/1 assist to turnover ratio, while Larkin has a 2/1 assist to turnover ratio. Larkin's main concern is defending at his size, but he was the runner-up for ACC Defensive Player of the Year and averaged 2 steals a game? Not to mention Larkin was the ACC Player of the Year. Player of the year in his league and runner-up for defensive player of the year in his league is very good.

Schroeder does have a little bit of character issues and is a very arrogant player. Larkin is very good at interviews and comes off with no character issues at all.

Larkin is a one year and 13 days older than Schroeder is. Still, both of them are very young and have room to grow. Larkin played at the University of Miami and lead his team to a ACC Championship and made it to the Elite 8 and Schroeder is playing with grown men as well and was the Most Improved Player in the German league. Both players have proven themselves to play at high levels.

Jazzfanz logic is, let's draft Schroeder instead of Larkin because he is 3-inches taller and is one-year younger. Larkin weighs 20 more lbs. than Schroeder does! 20! Larkin is also the better athlete.

All of this said, you can not go wrong with either Larkin or Schroeder.

@NBN: Which one has the potential to defend NBA PGs and not get completely killed on switches?

Players who are undersized often have to overcommit on defense. Here's an example of Randy Foye this year being guarded by JJ Barea. If Randy Foye can do that to a small defender, just imagine what a talented PG with size and a tight handle would do.

Larkin has the same wingspan as Barea and is only 1/4 inch taller without shoes.

you forgot that larkin had t-rex arms 5'10 wingspan on a 5'11 frame...

Schroders arms are like Rondos.. almost 6'8" wingspan

so the 10 inches less in vertical is made up for directly with 10 inches of standing reach,

to mention their heights and not reach this is doing schroder a great disservice in the comparison

Wow.. we finally agreed on something.

Damian Lillard was the steal of last year's draft. This time last year it was easy to see why he would succeed at the next level. It wasn't that his shooting was spot on. It wasn't that he had the athleticism. It wasn't that he was smart...

It was because he was "humble".

From all the stuff I saw via video/interviews it was clear as day that this was a guy who follows the Lord. He had the bible tattooed on his arm for crying out loud!!!! He was a humble guy who knows what it's like to lead a team. Lead by example. He was hard working. He had a high level of character.

As we get closer to the draft, it pains me to see that Schroeder has yet to demonstrate those leadership qualities.. (especially the "humble" part). Arrogant will get you nowhere in the NBA, IMO.

It was easy to see that Lillard would be a stud just by watching his tape. While his attitude clearly helped, the tape was what showed he would be good. Some of us saw it, some didn't. Your post, like most of our others, sucks.

Oh, and as for your last sentence...Kobe and a myriad of other successful players say hello. You can be hard working and arrogant at the same time.

As for saying that it's obvious that he follows The Lord because of a tattoo...well I surely hope you're trolling.

All of this talk on Larkin's vertical needs to stop. He did not show that vertical during games, and since he's terrible at finishing, it's an irrelevant skill other than showing that he's explosive, which we already knew from his sprint times.

Larkin does not see the floor well. Watch the tape. Coming off of the PnR, he missed open corner shooters and the roll guy countless times. He's a starter on a bad team, who would be more suited to be an energy guy off the bench. You don't draft that kind of player at #14 or #21.

also Larkin has the smallest hands at the combine, Schroders hands are bigger than most, including Otto Porter Jr's, , and are slightly shorter than Noels (his hands are actually wider than Noels, 10.5" hand width...)

honestly I am not sold that Larkin is going to be a bad defender at the next level.

The amount of energy he's going to need to expend hawking the ball and covering passing lanes isn't something he's going to be able to sustain for a whole game, especially if he's also working hard to run the offense. I've just never seen it happen before.

Oh, and I don't care that Larkin was in the running for DPOY in his conference...he wasn't a good defender. Good at stealing, but not at defending. Steals, much like blocks, are an incredibly misunderstood stat in regards to their relevance and importance.

is anyone gonna mention that schroders father has passed away, and shane larkin has a steph curry type support system

his father is a HoF athlete...

i think its very fair to say that Dennis the menace has just begun to scratch the surface, i think both have a point to prove but miami is not the best place for you to get hungry in college, its where you go to party and lay in the sun... and Larkin has much room for improvement but i see his potential as C+ maybe B level, im not sure Larkin is the ty lawson starter type, he maybe a better JJ BArerra type, a sparkplug off the bench

Dennis will be more of a guy who is gonna wow everyone and then get on everyones nerves and then do something amazing... larkin should be more consistant right away, if schroder is consistent off the bat and gets minutes on the jazz, watch out... we have a sleeper

No I'm not.

It's not just the tattoo. From what I've seen from his interviews, and from what I've read in terms of his character, anyone can see that he is a man who is filled with the Holy Spirit. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that he follows the Lord.

i think if we get schroder everyone is gonna love his interviews, he seems like a genuine character

Tim Tebow agrees. Look how successful he has been...
