What's new

Is Lindsey going to take us back to 1996?

You folks miss out on our most glaring weakness, Ty Corbin.

Yes, the c4 with Sloan would have surprised some people expecting a tank job/crappy lotto team. I have no doubt that our HOF coach would have blown away the low expectations.

Meanwhile, I see no evidence that Corbin can coach. If anything, expectations are too high right now. As long as Corbin is here this team is going to underachieve not overachieve.

He will "grow" with your young guys & our young GM.

Yes, I'm trying to be optimistic.

Regardless if Corbin is coaching or not, it didn't stop Enes Kanter from putting up 20/20 when giving a starting role for one night only.
I think these guys will be just fine.

Hopefully Corbin's watching Gregg Popovich film right now, saying "So that's how you do that thing they call 'playcalling'."

No, Jazz don't have any Allstars to sit. But he might be taking us to 2001-2002 Rockets as I pointed out in one of the other tank threads. It might also be compared to the 2003-2004 Jazz which still stands out as one of my favorite Jazz seasons because Jerry Sloan took a band of cast-offs and role players and finally silenced his critics. The talking heads could no longer suggest that Sloan was made by Stockton & Malone, that his ways were too old school or that he was too rigid. He showed he could adapt his system and methods and be successful. And his reward was--missing the playoffs by 1 game (Jazz would have been 4th in the East) and losing the COTY award to Hubie Brown who lead the the Memphis Grizzlies to 50 wins--His team: Jason Williams, Shane Battier, Pau Gasol, Mike Miller and James Posey. (Hubie quit 12 games into the next season). But I went tangent there.....

This team could end up similarly composed of cast offs, unprovens and up and comers. But Ty Corbin is no Jerry Sloan, not yet. Sloan took his crew to 42 wins after he had years of experience coaching Stockton and Malone. He had time to make & learn from mistakes because they could cover for him. Ty hasn't had that luxury.

Ty could very well find himself in a situation like Doc Rivers in that same 2003-04 season. Doc was entering his fifth season as a head coach. He had made it to the first round of the playoffs in the weak east 4 years in a row. The magic had reloaded of sorts with a roster of 5 rookies and 3 players with 1 year of experience. They started off terrible and were 1-9 coming in to play the Jazz. I went to that game, and remember Doc looking frustrated and his team looking untalented except for McGrady who looked disintrested. The Jazz won by 2 pts after Tracy McGrady missed two shots in the final 16 seconds. Doc was not available for a post game interview and was fired that night or early the next day. They won 20 more games that season and turned a flop of a season into a draft of Dwight Howard. Now that Could be Ty Corbin and the Jazz.

Corbin runs every single play Poppovich does. Is there one you think is missing?

One where he has his better players on the court to run the play.
Not many plays are going to work with marv, foye, al, and mo running it

Corbin had a front row seat to observe Popovich's coaching mastery in the 2012 playoffs, but didn't learn squat from that...I doubt he'll learn anything watching on TV.

Will we be bad enough to obtain one of those top picks in the draft next season? I know people have differing opinions on that. I am interested to see how this plays out.

I wouldn't be surprised if right at the end of next season there will be plenty of "injuries" and mysterious "DNP".

I don't think the Jazz organization with ever tank. In a season they should have sucked they finished .500 with Kirilenko and Harpring. I think whatever team Utah puts on the floor next season they will be almost as equal as thi seasons.

That'd be cool, but as I said before. Stern won't give us Wiggins, maybe Jabari, but not Wiggins.
