So let me see if I get the idea behind brining back Millsap. The mindset has to be that we'd like to get him at a deal that one (maybe two) year(s) down the road we'll easily be able to trade him, right? Because if we do sign him, then I can't envision him wanting to come off the bench, and I'd be fine brining Kanter off the bench for one more year, but if Millsap is your starting PF for the next 4-5 years, then aren't you essentially saying you whiffed on either Favors or Kanter?

My theory is that we don't really want him back. We're feigning significant interest to drive his price up to help him out, hence the "no offer" when Lindsey met with him. This team will never be Hayward's and Favors' until the old guard is gone. You bring back Millsap and you're still stuck with him being the de facto leader/go-to guy and that just screams mediocrity to me.

If the objective is to compete for the 8th seed and stayed mired in the 40-45 win range, then yes, let's re-sign Millsap, go out and get another wing like Mayo and bring in a PG like DeRozan. There, we're now up to the minimum salary level and can extend Favors and Hayward with the savings we'll realize from Marvin's expiring. That should put us over the cap, but still below the luxury tax level. Then what? We expect to get impact players at #18 in the draft each year? Far more likely we'll have a few playoff appearances, even make it to the 2nd round once or twice, then start trading players as they express their desire to play for a contender, a la Deron. We're just one year away from what will be one of the best drafts EVER! If Lindsey and KOC stay the course, don't bring in vets and force Ty to play the young guys, we'll be drafting in the top-10 for sure. If The Jazz take on a salary or two at the deadline, they may be able to pick up an additional late lottery pick. I say that moves the Jazz up to 5 or 6. Not a Wiggins or Jabari, but an all-star type player.

You'd think they'd learned their lesson the last three times they raided the Jazz's closet and overpayed.

Man, the irrational hate knows no bounds. . . The reason bringing back Millsap would mean Favors having to play center is because Millsap cannot play center. That means when he is in with Favors or with Kanter, those two will have to play center. When Favors and Kanter are in together, which will happen often, Favors would move to PF. Kanter would be a full time center. If Millsap accepts a contract here, it will be obvious to everyone involved, including him, that he will have to work for and earn his starting role. If he wants that handed to him, there are plenty of other teams he can go to (but probably not win.) Millsap will take no time from Favors. We need a stretch 4, and Millsap at a good price (and ONLY at a good price) is the best we can do.
As far as adding vets, hell yes, as long as we GET A GOOD DEAL! Always Add Assets. Be looking for players below 26 or so, that we can get a good deal on, then frontload those contracts. You want to get a serviceable or decent player at the deadline, have capspace. You want to get real talent, have capspace AND assets. That way we can avoid trading our young talent. Much rather give up mayo than Kanter to get that star player.
Also, NO to Bynum. That is not a good asset.

Yes!

They're already saying Millsap's return is contingent on their seeing Favors and Kanter both as centers. In other words, Sap is cool with playing for the Jazz as long as he's the #1 PF on the team. Confirming the biggest concern with bringing him back.

Pass.
Who are "they"? Seems to me that part of the tweet is Bill Oram's speculation/opinion. When did being a dim-witted drama queen become so fashionable?

It always has been, but with retard level fashion sense you haven't picked up on it.

This whole ****ing thread needs fixing. Gimme Millsap at the right price all damn day. Dude is a warrior, and all you sissies are being too presumptuous about stuff from last year. Bring him back, and let Kanter earn a starting job; if he does, then Paul won't have a problem -- guaranteed.

Fixed

I don't think he invented drama queen, but I do think Trout made it somewhat fashionable.. and in a totally gay way.

Thing is, Millsap could probably "earn" that starting role. Problem with that is that it holds back not only the development of our young guys but the teams ability to evaluate them too.

If Millsap isn't enthusiastic about coming off the bench I don't want to have anything to do with him. Not because he's a bad guy or a bad player, but because his needs and the teams needs don't match up at the moment.

I think the Jazz are doing Millsap a solid by showing interest. Another team will offer him like 4 years and $45 million, and he'll be gone.

Maybe I'm just relatively more concerned about being honest and intelligent and less about being fashionable than you are. Have fun with your ignorance.
