**** THE OFFICIAL: Why Jazz Fanz should be CONCERNED thread ****

I’m not freaking out. There is so much to be hopeful for on this Jazz team. But in spreading joy, happiness, and optimism I can’t ignore a few issues:

1- 3pt shooting. Jazz ranked 28th in 3pt attempts last season. They attempted 1385 which was nearly 300 fewer attempts than league average and nearly 1000 attempts behind the top two teams (NYK & Hou). With the NBA trending to more and more 3’s the Jazz old school style of pound it inside and shooting long jumpers makes it hard for them to compete. The Jazz lost 2 of their 3 top 3pt shooters in Foye and Mo. Hayward stays with his incredible .415% shooting and Rush was added as a career .413% 3pt shooter. Maybe Burke fills in with some long balls, but until the jazz make some changes to increase the number of 3’s and include more corner threes they will continue to struggle.

2- Injuries: Brandon Rush is coming back from his 2nd acl surgery. Young Enes had a freak shoulder surgery that will cost him a summer worth of development. Favors had that plantar facsiatis that never really heals, it just doesn’t flare up. Gobert has a toe that looks like it was Hacked by a weed eater. A team that is expected to have no more than 30 wins, would be devastated if one or more of their bigs goes down or if the guy who is supposed to be a veteran scorer can’t play.

3- Coaching. I love the look of the new coaching staff. In particular Brad Jones, Alex Jensen and Johnny Bryant. Jones and Jensen were D-League superstar coaches. They have experience working with and coaching young players this is going to help. The additions of Karl & Jerry were fabulous for fan morale and for the young players. The concern is no longer development, it is in-game strategy and game management--two areas where Corbin has struggled in his 2.333 seasons as head coach. Hopefully his lead assistant and he can get on the same page and improve their game….but if they can’t it could be a really long season for Jazz fans.

4- PG. Trey Burke was the Draft day Trophy of the Jazz. And his resume is impeccable. But his summer league performance was never awe inspiring and a little bit frightening. He is the only pg on the roster for now, something the Jazz will certainly address. But Coming in with such fanfare, and high hopes he is going to get time to play and even the best rookie pgs that enter the NBA have led their teams to ugh records: Lilliard 33 wins, Kyrie and the cavs 21, Kemba in Charlotte-7, Knight in Detroit 25. Wall in Washington 23, 2010-Flynn 17 wins, Curry (Used as sg) in GS 36 wins. Expect a difficult season for the likeable Trey.

Relax about Big Turkey's injury. I've had the same injury and surgery and it heals. It just takes time to property rehab and get flexibility and strength back in the shoulder joint. The good news it's not his dominant hand shoulder. Big Turkey will be fine.

I like Trey, I think he could be good and I really, really, really want him to succeed. But over the last 25 years or so the list of PG's that over-achieved or made their name in the NCAA Tournament and then sucked or had marginal careers as NBA Players is very long and very depressing.

In reality we're all in for a player with a profound lack of confidence and a lot of inconsistency coming his way. I'm hoping by year 3 he can be a solid starter. Anything better than that and I will be pleasantly surprised.

I have no concerns for this season. We're going to suck, but we'll have rewards. Either way, I'm cool.

Core 7, with Burke, Burks, Hayward, Favors, Kanter, Gobert, and Rush.

Rush as of right now is a 1 year rental. Let's see what he brings and if he is willing to stay before we throw him into the C6.

I know that it's only three games into Summer league; however, it is apparent that Trey Burke is having trouble getting his shot off. From what I have seen, it looks like the game is too fast for him right now. I heard an interview with Hayward and he admitted the game seemed way too fast for him when he got to the NBA and he was surprised how much it slowed down for him into his second season. The problem we have, is that Burke is the only pg on the roster. I'm worried that the Jazz are going to start looking at Mo Williams...heaven help us.

That's my fear. I don't care if the Jazz struggle to 20-25 wins. All the better for a higher draft pick. Hayward had a horrible start to his career. Then he caught fire after the all-star break his rookie season. I hope the only reaction Lindsey and Ty make is to bring in Tinsley to start and play 6-8 mins of the 1st/3rd. Take a little pressure of Trey for the first couple of months, but still give him 30 mins/game.

This is my only major concern at the moment. I'll take a huge sigh of relief when he officially signs with another team.

Kanter will be fine.. and so will we.

This year is not about being good or winning games it's about the FO getting comfortable with the pros and cons of the team and fixing things in the '14 draft and FA.
There is nothing to be concerned about other than poor evaluating of the FO of our personnel.

Good post.
This is one of the only years ever where losses are a good thing
