Is our bench going to be that bad?

For some reason most of the posters assume that our bench this season going to be so bad that it will lose a lot ofgames of us and bring us a top pick. I just don't see it.

It will probably consist of Lucas - Rush (or Burks for scoring) -Williams - Evans - Biedrins/Gobert. This group has athleticism (Burks, Evans, Gobert), 3-pt shooters (Rush, Williams, Lucas, even Burks), size (Williams, Biedrins, Gobert), defense (Burks, Williams, Biedrins, Gobert), experience (Williams, Biedrins, Lucas). The only problem is offense, but not too many benches have a dynamic scorer like K-Mart or Bledsoe, and in any case we can always slide Burks to the bench for scoring.

I truly think, we are going to have an average bench and those hoping for our bench to singlehandedly bring us the top-5 pick will be severely disappointed.. To compare, here are the benches for middle-of-the-road Western conference teams from the last season:

Houston- Brooks, Douglas, Delfino, Morris, Aldrich
LA - Blake, Meeks, Clark, Jamison, Hill
Dallas - Fisher, Carter, Crowder, Murhy, Wright.

0 playmakers on the bench.

2 washed up veterans

1 veteran with extreme confidence issues

1 knock-down three point shooter

1 promising rookie who is raw as ****

1 guy who can jump really high

Yes, awful.

Houston has play-makers on the bench.

Lakers bench was awful and was a big reason they barely got the 8th seed while having 5 all time greats in their starting lineup

Dallas has play-makers on the bench.

Houston, LA, and Dallas also had better starting 5s. All of them had at least one star player and several good decent role players.

Lucas looks terrible to me from that little I've seen. Like a 5'11" shooting guard. I don't know why we even signed him.
Either Rush or Burks will be the best of our bench. Either should give us a little scoring.
Williams is going to be injured for a good while and will be coming off injury and was pretty craptastic last season anyway.
Evans can give us some decent minutes, but, he's a limited player.
Gobert is the center version of Evans with a ton less polish. Biedrins is flat out terrible.

And that's if we're 100% healthy. The real danger comes if one of our starters misses games. And one or more most likely will miss time. What happens if Burks goes down? You have Lucas and Burks? What if Burks or Rush goes down, who comes in then? A broken down Richard Jefferson? If one of Favors or Kanter goes down then what? Major minutes for Biedrins?

I understand the optimism. I do. We have had years in the past where we've had a ragtag group of nobodies compete for the 8th seed based on nothing more than heart and execution. But, that was with Jerry Sloan coaching. I haven't seen anything out of Corbin to make me think he as the ability to get that kind of execution out of a group of grizzled vets, let alone a bunch of green players.

So, yeah. Our bench sucks. Our coaching looks to suck. And we've got to be the most fragile team in the league least able to overcome injury.

There will be bright moments, but, don't be surprised to see the Jazz have a few 8-12 game losing streaks. And don't be too disappointed because that's a good thing for the long term success of the team. Just hold your nose this year and deal with it. It's going to be stinky. But, next year we'll be playing to win and the future will be bright.

Our bench depends on Burks IMO.
I think out starting 5 are: Burke/Hayward/Rush/Favors/Kanter
Bench: Lucas/Burks/Evans or Marvin/Bidrens/Gobert

So the bench really depends on Burks and Gobert. If those two pan out, it could be an okay bench. The 3 position will hurt until Marvin comes back.
Also, I think that this is why Lindsey brought Lucas. Tinsley can't score and Lucas can bring that to the bench.

Really don't think Rush will start.

Well, I don't know where did you put Biedrins, but that guy has at least one pretty good skill - rebounding. Last season he was a better per 36 rebounder than Favors and Kanter. And he is also mobile and plays some decent defense. There is some non-negligible chance that the change of the scenery can pick up his spirit and make him a decent bench player. Rush/Burks are both solid choices as bench players, and Williams could even be a borderline starter. The only questionmarks are Lucas, Evans and Gobert, but they do have athleticism and size going for them.

If we could only add Royce White to Biedrins <<dat bench!!!!!yesyes!!!!!

I really want to add Arinze Onuaku to stick an arm up Corbin's *** playing puppet master every time Ty subs Biedrins in over him. The guy might not score the ball at Biedrins efficient 24 points per season clip, but he's tough as nails and will foul just about as much.
