Yesterday and this guys talkin about how he's from Utah. Looks like a tool, but regardless I asked him if he was a Jazz fan. Shakes his head, says no, says they suck. And I'm like "but, but... They're young." and he doesn't go into further detail.

Of course, this guys favorite team is Miami. Asked him why, and he said mainly because of Dwayne Wade.

Yeahh right.

Anyways, discuss. Are typical people from Utah this dumb?

How can a person be from Utah and not go for the Jazz?

The ones that make me mad are Idaho people who are fans of the Yankees, the Heat (although in the 90's it was the Bulls), and Green Bay/Pittsburg (although it seems like a lot are quickly becoming 49ers fans). Oh, and they love their Florida/Alabama and Boise (although my father in law, who is from Idaho, said everyone was Idaho State fans when he was growing up and they dominated the Boise/Idaho State rivalry).

Tons of Lakers fans. The problem is that Utah is directly conected to Vegas and LA by the I-15 interstate. So people from Nevada and California move here by the droves. Many of them are Lakers and Raiders fans.

Being a die hard Jazz and Broncos fan it leads to some interesting arguements. Got into a heated exchange with a dude at the grocery store once lol. Loser was wearing a Raiders jersey.

Yeah, every "favorite" team. Like why be a sports fan if you are just generic?
 
I'm kind of a snob about fandom. I think a person needs an actual reason to root for a team. I know it's silly, but that's the way I feel and I usually have very little respect for any fan that just picks their team out of a hat (not usually that random, they typically pick a winning team).

For me there is no option. I'm from Utah. I'm a Utah jazz fan, simple as that.

I'm not much of a football fan, but the teams I want to see win are the Bears first, my dad's team, which he supported because they drafted Jim McMahon, the San Diego Charges second, because I lived in San Diego for several years, the Bronco's third, because my dad supported them because they were closest to SLC, and the 49rs fourth because my dad supported them because they drafted Steve Young.

That's how it's supposed to be done, imho.

I agree. I was born and have lived in Utah so I am a Jazz fan. Lived in Denver and was taken to Broncos games, I am a Broncos fan. Was taken to Dodgers games (man they are tearing it up right now) by my grandma and would eat dodger dogs, I am a Dodgers fan.

Typical people? No. Every population base has their exceptions. I know a lot of people that live in Utah that love DWade. I then explain to them how he gave his wife HIV after they were married. It is fun to see them think that one through.
 
I'm sure its no different than anywhere else, but tons of people in Utah are like the ones OP described.

Hate it when people say the Jazz suck but their only reasoning is the win/loss record and nothing to do with management or the way the franchise is being built for the future.

Also, almost every person on earth is way retarded. Seriously.

Kinda disappointed in this thread...when I saw the title, I thought this was going to be about a Jazz player spilling the beans and giving juicy inside information to a complete stranger in a trucking terminal.
 
If this had been four years ago, same guy would have been wearing purple and gold.

And if the Jazz explode after getting a top-3 pick, you'll see this bandwagoner going around telling people he's been a Jazz fan for life.
