They predict the Jazz finish 3rd worst in the West at 32-50 (only 2 off my prediction of 34-48).

That would give the Jazz the 8th pick in the draft. Same as I predicted.

Here are the East predictions as well: https://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/9559931/2013-summer-forecast-east-standings

So they predict the lottery will be:

1. 76ers
2. Suns
3. Magic
4. Bobcats
5. Celtics
6. Kings
7. Bucks
8. Jazz
9. Raptors
10. Lakers
11. Pelicans
12. Blazers/Pistons
13. Pistons/Blazers
14. Mavs

You gotta post the predictions they made the last couple years and find out how wrong they were in these years. Like this this has simply no value...

I am not going to look up the last few years predictions but it would be interesting. Someone want to do it?

Also I felt this was by itself interesting enough to post about.

To me that seems about right though... for what we've done in the past.

Having said that, I have a feeling there will be more than a few unexpected "injuries" near the end of the season... LOL

I have no idea how ESPN fares prognosticating on the NBA, but they are nbadarft.net horrid on HS rankings coming into college.

Curious how you guys feel they do with the NBA.

According to the predictions.. GSW will be picking #20th overall...

Meaning we'll get Samaj Christon, the PG out of Xavier...

Another stella pick.

For funsies.. I could see pick #8 being any of the following;

- Aaron Gordon
- Marcus Smart
- Andrew Harrison
- Mario Hezonja
- Joel Embiid
- WCS
- James Young
- Exum (he could be a bit over-hyped right now, I don't know)

(I don't see Glenn Robinson or Dario Saric being considered that high come draft time)

^I guess I'm saying I predict that there's about a 80% chance that the Jazz' pick winds up from that group. I also admit it's laughably early to making such outlandish predictions.

For funsies.. I could see pick #8 being any of the following;

- Aaron Gordon (already stacked at C/PF)
- Marcus Smart (not a Jazz PG)
- Andrew Harrison (won't be there at #8)
- Mario Hezonja (meh)
- Joel Embiid (already stacked at C/PF)
- WCS (already stacked at C/PF)
- James Young (meh)
- Exum (won't be there at #8)

Not looking good.......

Keep in mind the Jazz have the GSW pick, young players and future picks to try and move up. I fully expect Lindsey to work some more magic next offseason. This offseason, season and next offseason are huge for the Jazz as far as getting se tup and learning where we truly are. Important times.

It would be hard to move up in this draft, IMO..

or LaQuinton Ross.

I love the idea of having a killer PG, a solid big man rotation, then load up on 6'7/6'8 sharp-shooting wings.

True but the Jazz are loaded with assets. Basically my point is that we have no idea what is going to happen. The 8th pick in the lottery gives the Jazz a 2.8% chance of moving up. Plus all the young guys and picks.

In the words of Ludacris "...anything can happen..."

According to Chad Ford's Big Board, Embiid is #8... with this commentary:

Louisville head coach Rick Pitino is on record as saying Embiid has a chance to be the No. 2 pick in the draft. The scouts I talked to aren't quite ready to go there yet, but they are very, very intrigued. Embiid is the riskiest player in the Top 10, but next to Wiggins, he might have the most long-term potential. Embiid wowed scouts at the McDonald's game and in practices for the Nike Hoop Summit, as well as at adidas Nations. He has rapidly moved up in the rankings. His feel for the game is still a work in progress, but the physical tools are convincing. He has a 7-foot-5 wingspan, is a fluid athlete and is more skilled than one would think. If Bill Self can get him up to speed quickly and get him to play hard all the time, he's the top center prospect in the draft.

When Pitino talks, you listen, and if he says Embiid could be #2 in the draft, you've got to grab him.

Here's the write up on Christon:

Christon is one of just four point guards on the Big Board. Length and athleticism are his primary calling cards. A number of scouts believe he'll be a better prospect than Dennis Schroeder, a similar player from Germany who went No. 17 in the 2013 draft. Christon needs to improve his jump shot and keep turnovers down, but there is a lot of talent here.

That right there got my attention.

Sorry I'm already loaded with the team previews. But reading that article just made me think: That hobo is delusional and has as much knowledge about basketball as other ESPN guys have insider information.

Regarding moving up, it's anything but impossible - Think of a situation like the following: Clevelands guys all go down(Irving, Bynum, Waiters) and they end up with the #5 pick.
#1 is Wiggins #2 Randle #3 Parker #4 Gordon(surprisingly). Cleveland really needs a SF and a C. So WCS, Embiid, Walker and Austin come to mind as C and Young, Hezonja as swingman. Bigger SFs are not in that range.
Picking Exum next to Irving and Bennett would be retarded(ball handling responsibilites). Austin would be a bad fit with his outside game next so a small stretch PF and Walker has bad personality according to everyone, so he's dropping. WCS and Embiid would be a stretch for a #5 and at #6 and #7 we have the Magic and Bucks, who will be looking at Exum, Harrison and Smart as BPA. The Jazz though want a PG or Exum and are willing to give up a future first round or one of the GSW picks or a young gun additionally to their #8 for the Cavs. Cavs get their man for lower money + an extra asset. Jazz can select which backcourt guy they want.
I'm sure if I took time to think about it I could create a dozen possible scenarios like this.
All I'm saying: Trading up into the top 3 is impossible, everything below is very much possible if it's a win win for both sides.

Good post. I agree that top 3 is unattainable but I could see some movement on draft day.
