I wonder how much.


He's definitely not going to get James and Durant money, and even the contract Steph Curry got (four years, $44 million) seems quite ridiculous for Hayward. But his production and his potential to be one of the better versatile options at the small forward position (assuming he continues improving) could garner him a similar contract extension to the deal O.J. Mayo got with the Milwaukee Bucks ($8 million per season) this summer.

I don't know how the Jazz can determine contract value for either Hayward or Favors.

It's waaaaaay easier to guesstimate what Hayward is worth doe

And $8mil/year for Hayward would be such great value. I'd be ecstatic if that happened.

This. I would wait to see how they handle their larger roles before committing huge money to either of them...unless they are positive they are buying low. The Jazz FO knows way more than any of us except InsideJazzMan.
 
I don't think extensions happens unless the Jazz know they are getting a killer deal. Without extensions on the books, I believe the Jazz will have more cap-space next offseason than this one (provided that the cap number for Hayward and Favors are their qualifying offers).
 
Hayward is easier to guage than Favors.

Favors is potential max (or not)

Hayward is right around 7-11 per.


Offer Hayward 8.5 per and call it a day.


Its smart to go after Hayward firsr too. If we lock him up then Favors is more inclined to except his.
 
I'm going on the record. I want both Hayward and Favors extended before the season starts.

If we let them enter free agency, is there honestly a chance we'd end up paying them less than we would right now?

Possibly. There are a number of big name players in next year's free agency crop that teams will be going after first.

The risk seems to be: do we wait and have to pay out more because the minutes and being go-to options raise their stats a significant margin, or do we overbid now with the potential of getting Kirilinkoed?

If I'm Hayward's agent, I tell him to hold off on signing.

But I thought we wanted Favors to accept an extension, not leave one on the table.

Great point. It's 200% of the rookie scale for Favors (above average salary) -- $12mm. 250% for Hayward (below average salary) -- $8.63mm.

I don't think Favors is worth Ibaka money, and $9mm is around Hayward's value, so cap holds are moot IMO.

I'll go with Spycam on this one. Perhaps a front loaded 4yr contract starting at 10 and dipping to 7.2 or so.

Why? Favors will score just as much (quite possibly more), block just as many shots, and rebound more than Ibaka. And that's when we're simply talking about how good Favors is right now. I'd bet a large amount of money that Favors will be better than Ibaka by the 14-15 season.
 
Offer Favors 1 cent more than the deal Larry Sanders got. Hayward gets 8/year and all the Young Women tail he can handle until Raul Neto gets to the team.
