So I admittedly didn't follow the draft this year very closely. Why was everyone so excited about Burke?

Didn't seem to make too much noise here either.

I shall remember this post, when I see you singing Burke's praises later this year :)

Give him a shot. He was a superb college player, and single-handedly ran the best offense of the country. From a statistical, and credential standpoint, i cannot see how Burke could have done much more last season.

I am looking forward to seeing some clutch deep 3 pointers from Burke this year. Can't imagine the forum when it is happening.

I'll give you a preview.

"Corbin better teach that kid about shot selection. These long shots are going to dry up and bite him in the buttocks."
"We need to play better D and learn to run a decent PNR so we don't have to beat these Bobcat scrubs with a deep three at the buzzer"

etc, etc, ad nauseum

That's terribly realistic. I love JazzFanz.

This. Also because he does everything well. Has poise.. and is mentally tough. Also, this draft was weak... so getting anything at all out of it is a plus.

Fish said a great season.. not a decent one. He also said POY not best PG available.
(See the first sentence highlighted and quoted)

Burke may not live up to expectations.. but his body of work vs. a couple summer league games suggests the negative nancies need to be more patient and let the guy play a few games. I am much more optimistic about him than this board as a whole.

I tend to be optimistic about players and coaches. I also think Burke will be fine despite the lackluster showing in Summer League play. Time with the team and a chance to learn the system and plays and he will start to show what he can do.

Unlike most of what I see on this board, I actually have few issues with Corbin and think he's a decent coach. A good chunk of coaching in the NBA has to do with motivating and getting the most out of his players which he has done fairly well. He may not be the best X's and O's type of coach, but I think he's a decent coach especially considering the situations he's had to deal with.

I think this will be a good year and we will see these players develop and grow up before our eyes. Must watch tv, or better yet... buy tickets and if you have season tickets.. fill those seats with your own rear ends instead of selling or not using them. This year is more about growth than wins, but if the wins come too that would rock.

Let me tell you the REAL answer...

He was THE ONE from the beginning. He is the soul mate of the JazzFanz. We prayed for him, and we got him.

Only if we knew we were going to get what we prayed for!

Thanks, spazz.. I must admit/mention that I am not at all impressed with Corbin thus far. I don't think he's a chemistry builder, a developer of talent, nor a good x's and o's coach. I just think he's over his head.

What's disappointing about the board regarding Burke, at this juncture, is the majority of the board saw Burke as a pipe dream. The majority were elated, no, euphoric about the FO making some killer moves to move up and snag him. Most excitement I've seen on this board, ever.. literally.

Then two games into summer league the majority are sour grapes on the kid.

It's quite unbelievable, really. I understand fan bases and especially message boards.. but holy **** guys... srsly.

For the record, my stance on burke has never changed...... I liked mccollum the best, but understood why the jazz picked burke (he was believed by most to be best point guard available)

Honestly I thought it was a weak *** draft and whether we drafted burke, mccollum, schroeder, mcw, or that short dude from miami, I felt like we still should look for a better point in free agency or the draft next year (andrew harrison)

Burke just looks small and slow to me (downside), while also looks like a confident, smart, good shooter who can lead a team. (Upside)
All in all I think the jazz made the right pick but I still don't believe burke to be the point guard of the future

This exactly matches my opinion of him. Like spazz I tend to be an optimistic guy who gives players and coaches the benefit of the doubt, but having watched Corbin deliver virtually nothing for over two years I wouldn't be even a tiny bit disappointed to hear that he and the team had decided to part ways. In fact, I would be thrilled because I think that Dennis Lindsey (who happens to be my dad's neighbor) would do a great job of hiring a new coach.

So instead of a negative nancy you are a positive pollyanna? Gotcha.

Does this apply in any way?

Is there a compelling reason why this is not a possible, and maybe even good, estimate of Burke's potential?

https://www.realclearsports.com/lis...mateen_cleaves_michigan_state.html?state=stop

Michigan State. Averaged 12.5 ppg and 6.6 apg over four years, Big Ten career assists leader with 816, Most Outstanding Player of the 2000 Final Four, three-time All-American, two-time Big Ten Player of the Year.

Seems Cleaves' pluses, minuses and accolades are very close to Burke's.

I've said it many times, but here again:

Burke showed OUTSTANDING ability in his recognition of where he needed to be in space/on the floor, and in his ability to get there. He reminds me a little of DWill in this sense. He WILL get to his spot and (HOPEFULLY) do good things from there. This will take some adjusting though, because at this level he'll have to use his teammates' skills to get to those spots a lot more. In other words, he'll need to know where his teammates are most effective, put the defense on its heels by quickly getting them the ball in those spots, and then put pressure on the D with own O once he has them on their heels in this way. In college he could do more himself, simply with his own dribble.

He.is.not.undersized.

In other words, watch cp3... who happens to be the same size.

(we know burke is watching him)

How about the Jazz barely miss the playoffs because they get job by the refs. The BB gods bless them with the first overall pick and the Tankers fall apart due to injuries to key players. They move up and we land the 2nd pick.

If you are going to dream you might as well dream big!! Even better scenario, the Jazz win the NBA championship and shock the world. GS falls apart and the Jazz land the number one pick. Now that is going BIG!!!!
