Following potential 2014 draftees

It'll be hilarious when we talk about one of the best freshmen classes of all time flaming out mid-tournie to some middling basketball team with lotsa heart

But this Enfield coach joined USC and the Butler dude is in Boston...Who's left besides Wichita State?

Seth Greenberg just scouted a couple of UK's practices and I'll share a few snippets of an Insider article.

Julius Randle, Freshman forward
Randle is the most impressive physical specimen I have seen since LeBron James. At 6-foot-9, 250 pounds, he has both the size and quickness very few possess. He looks to have the intangibles Kentucky was missing last season. I expect him to be the heartbeat of the Wildcats. He has an easy smile that makes his teammates react to him.

Randle is a relentless offensive rebounder, and after grabbing defensive rebounds, he has the ability to burst out and initiate the break. He is explosive going to the basket and had numerous thunderous dunks off drives from the high-post area. He is an adequate jump shooter, but he must not settle, because he's unstoppable when attacking the hoop. He is hard to defend both on the block and on the baseline.

This is Pretty much what I said on this forum about 2 weeks ago re Randle & LeBron comparison.

Great work Seth.

Quite the statement. You agree, pkmoe?

Hayward is taller in shoes than Robinson w/o. One can assume that his height w/o shoes is 6'5". There's PGs bigger than that. Plus Hayward is a smart player. Can't say the same about GR3. Hayward was reported to be able to guard both wing positions at times, which may be a result of the overall (lack of) strength and depth of the SG position in the NBA or his versatility. So do you believe Robinson has the same upside or bigger than Hayward?
His athleticism doesn't count as an argument, since GR3 doesn't utilize one bit of it(compare vid section toughness). He won't even use it to establish position when boxing out.

And having a longer neck serves you better how again? It's not a coincidence every all star SF has a 7 ft wingspan. Hayward is undersized just like GRIII is at SF. As far as their games, I disagree about the athleticism part. GR3's 56% FG is absolutely incredible for a rookie and a testament to his athleticism. All those dunks and oops would not be happening if he only had Hayward's hops. I'm not prepared to say he's a better overall prospect than Hayward but haven't closed the book on him. I will be watching for an improved three point shot and increased creativity on his unassisted drives.

The difference is that you can't influence if you have a long neck, long head, or whatever. But you can wear shoes like that:

I'm looking at SFs on DX that are listed taller w/o shoes than Gordon...

Harrison Barnes is 6'7 with a 6'11.25 wingspan
Smove 6'7 and 7'
Deng 6'7 and 7'0.5
Gay 6'7 7'3
LBJ 6'7.25 7'0.5
George 6'7.75(assumed to have grown further since) 6'11.25
Jeff Green 6'7.75 7'1.25
Durant 6'9(general opinion he's taller than that now) 7'4.75

So except Durant and George(assumed) there is no significant difference in height. Wingspans are higher compared to Gordi...
Now you add 6'5 GR3 with a 6'9 wingspan to the table. Yeah like that's gonna look good.

Other possible SF players measuring around 6'5:
Brandon Rush 6'5 6'11.25
Caron Butler 6'5.25 6'11.5

Here's another guy to keep an eye on if we decided to go BPA with our 1st pick and somehow still need another SG/SF to fill the starting role... (and An. Harrison is already off the board once GSW pick rolls around)

Sounds to me a lot like Oladipo minus athleticism. And I guess the Spurs would want him on their team. Or any other team with Spurs coaches/front office personnel. So like every other team in the NBA. Looks like a good soldier next to a ball dominant point.

with a better stroke & 3pt shooting...

Was Gary Harris unknown to you?

with a better stroke & 3pt shooting...

Maybe. But looking at Oladipos percentages, I see 44.1% at 2 attempts per game. That's like 2.5 attempts less than Gary, but Oladipo played a different role. I wouldn't rule out he could be very close in shooting to Harris long term.
But due to age Harris has a higher "ceiling" and will change his game more. So I'll give him the better shooting for now.

I like that write up on young. 6-6 is a little disappointing I was hoping closer to 6-8. surprised about the consistently run the floor because I thought hewas a high motor guy.

He's 6'7 and def a high energy guy.. don't agree with Seth's opinion there.

Influence eh? Well that's better than nothing I guess. When he plays those SFs above next year just take note of how helpless he looks at times. The board consensus of drafting Jabari Parker as our last great piece probably wouldn't be so popular if we thought deep down that Hayward was really legit at SF.

I have to admit I didn't pay too much attention to Hayward in the past, but I felt the board concensus was he's a bossy SF who should operate more with the ball in his hands even though he's currently bad at it and one day he might be nominated for 1 or 2 all star games. And he can defend better than his skin tone suggests.
I'll take a look at it. But from the pure numbers Gordon doesn't look to outmatched against others.

But do you see it too how ridiculous these shoe measurements are? 1.5 inches average increase in height aren't shoes. The sneakers I'm wearing are giving me between .5 and .75 inches. These guys are standing on their toes and elevate their heels to strengthen their draftstock and whatever it might help for future negotiations.
They should just measure them in socks:
Height + Wingspan + Standing reach(w/o shoes - nowadays it's in shoes afaik). Then you have comparable physical data. How good one can utilize his leaping skills is something for eye testing to do. These max verts and no step verts aren't that important to me when trying to sort players.
