What's new

So much for hayward extension. Paul George got max deal

So another franchise makes a dumb move and this means the Jazz have to be as dumb.

That's my point. Hayward is not even close to worth a Max deal.

However, this may make Hayward think he is worth more than he is.

Indy has the same problem Utah does in that sometime people do not want to play there due to small Market.

Only way Jazz sign Hayward now , IMO, is to overpay him for 11-12/ year.

We'll see.

PAUL GEORGE SUCKS. he is overpaid.

check josh smith stats and paul george stats.

paul george is -10x player josh smith is

Paul George is drawing some heavy Rudy Gay déjà-vu

So what is Hayward worth?
Not what we need him to accept.
Not how we tend to over-value most of our players.

Just his real value.

If he doesn't sign an extension, Gordo will be a restricted free agent next offseason, and the Jazz will be able to match any contract.

Not sure what Indy's doing. While George is a very gifted/physical/athletic defender, his offense is incredibly mediocre. Yes, he fits well with what the team is doing (big, long, physical, competitive), but this team might fall apart if/when David West declines. Danny Granger is gone after this season if not before.

This. This contract combined with Hibbert's, West's and Hill's is there teams plus some supporting players. They just aren't going to be good enough unless George becomes a much better player.

Gordo is a complementary player; he's a heady off-ball and team player in halfcourt offense (makes the right play, knock down shooter, poor in isos and pick and rolls), a very good transition player, and a smart team defender. If you're depending on him to be a lockdown perimeter defender or hub of your offense, you're in trouble. The Jazz may not have the elite talent to get the most out of Hayward, so it's hard to put a number on his value. I'd probably extend him for as much as $9mm per year OR match any offer up to $10mm next offseason. If he doesn't show signs of making a big step early this season, and it looks like someone will offer him a big payday in the Summer, I'd probably shop him. Collecting $10mm+ role players is not the way to build a contender.

As an aside, just how much more does Hayward provide than players like JJ Redick and Jared Dudley?

Well that remains to be seen. I think George is the better defender of the two, while Gay is definately servicable. But George is elite and no prima donna. His teammates seem to enjoy playing with him.
Offensively their production and efficiency may be similar with George being the better 3 point shooter at that point. I think his rapid breakthrough makes Indiana hope he'll improve even more on offense.
Having one of the few players who can contain LeBron on some nights is definately a plus in the Eastern Conference.

Yep kinda agree.
I think if they don't extend him this offsaeson Luol Deng will set his price kinda. I do not expect LeBron, Melo and Gay to hit free agency.
LeBron and Melo can keep pressure on the franchises this way to maintain competitive personnell wise and are more flexible to react to big injuries and decline of their supporting casts.
Both can score a Arenas kinda deal while having microfracture/ACL or whatever injury.
Gay will prolly never get as much again, so player option is going to be exercised.
Deng will go somewhere between 12 and 14 most likely. After that Hayward is the next teams are going to eye on that position.
His production will obv influence that. But while I think right now 8.5 per would be fair he's prolly getting more since playing alongside Favors and Kanter will inflate his defensive numbers. If he can maintain enough offensive efficiency and Deng getts overpaid I see him above $10M/year.

Disagree with this. Don't have time now, but will explain later tonight.

so basically indy is saying "hey, we're gonna make some noise, but we're not going to win anything"

Significuntly better imo.
