What's new

Favors got extended

Based on the fact that Favors will get huge minutes this year his numbers will likely be 15+ points and 10+ boards. 2+ blocks. That alone would get him a huge offer from some other team this offseason. Big plus is that he is far from a head case(Cousins)

Great deal. You would be playing Russian roulette letting a big like him walk into restricted free agency. The Mavs and Lakers each have 30+ million to spend next year.

Price seems fair. I'd personally wait to see how good he is but hey it's not my job to decide.
Honestly I expect him to break out this year, so I guess Jazz FO thinks so too. But what if not?
Sometimes I am worried about that "I don't care" expression on his face. Did he make progress this offseason? Can he deliver night in and night out?
Well, we used to have a whole year to find solid answers to those Qs but now we don't. Jazz FO sure knows more than anyone else. It's their call!!

The only problem is if Kanter has a break out year. Who do you pay hayward or kanter?

Kanter, that's an easy answer, you may ask why, but skilled big men are a far more rare commodity than wing players, if we are modeling ourselves after the Spurs 00' and Rockets of the 90's who did they pay and make centerpieces of their franchises? Big men in David Robinson, Duncan, Hakeem, and Yao!

Now a question can be raised what kind of player is he after getting this contract. Is he a player that wont be affected one way or the other, he is who is and can't be anything else. Or is he a player that feels pressure by this new contract and tries to live up to it and see how he handles this pressure (crumbles under it or rises above it). Or is he a player that feels like the Jazz is now his home and this comfort and security will allow him to feel like this is where he belongs and it will cause him to play better knowing this.

If he's doing 15 and 10 and battles for an all defense 2nd team spot you're right. That would be kind of a huge improvement from last season. I don't like bold predictions. They're called bold for a reason. But it doesn't matter too much, since it expires when the 2014 first rounders come off their rookie contract. By then we'll know his real value.

So if in 23 minutes he averaged 9.4pts 7.1rbs 1.9blks

I'm pretty sure in 12 more minutes he'll be able get 5 more points 3 more rebounds and .5 more blocks!!!

Yeah I feel like this is a bit much for someone who hasn't shown as much improvement as his counterpart

I agree with you but if you 22 and can get rebound and defend, it's automatically 10 mil per year. So the point must be Kanter will get 13 mil per year after next year? Hmm

Completely agree.

bahahaha.....

what about the others? Still say he isn't trying to build around them?

I didn't say it was smart. What has Favors shown that says he can take you to a title?

IF it is front loaded, then there still isn't too much loyalty. It would be an easily movable contract.

Anyways, like I said, good for Favors and hopefully good for the Jazz.

the best choice for jazz is don't extend hayward. Because we gonna draft a sf probably. If enes kanter contines to play that good in offensive end and show his above average defense, he gets the max no doubt

Lol! 49 million?

Jeez. And to think, jazzfanz for years called real starting big men who could actually score (Boozer and Memo) overpaid.

Favors fouls way too much and has yet to develop a single offensive move. I wouldn't have extended him quite yet. I don't know if he can even play more than 25 mins per game due to his foul trouble and offensive liability. People act as if he's Karl Malone. In reality, if he could just be Larry sanders, bird man, or hell, Bogur (post elbow injury) that would be a significant step for him.

If favors can bet himself 49 million just imagine what Hayward and kanter will. Those guys can actually score too.

If he could score in the 18 pt range, he'd be a MAX player. Boozer and Memo were one-dimensional. They got paid for putting up gaudy scoring numbers and offering little resistance on the other end. Besides, Derrick isn't being paid anywhere near a Boozer, Jefferson, Malone (in today's dollars), etc. He's basically Larry Sanders right now (LS averaged just under 10/10/3 in 4 more mins/per vs. 10/7/2 for Favors).
