Ya, good win the other day.

Utes might be an NCAA tourney team this year. If not, it'll still be our best team since we were a #5 seed in 09'.

Oh dang. Steep price.

Either 7-1 or 8-1. Our schedule has been super easy but you can tell by watching us that we are head and shoulders better than the last few years.

Showed one of my friends this video. His response:

Finally saw the University of Colorado Buffaloes video "Dalamon". This video is such propaganda wrapped in a romanticized myth and pageantry and tradition . They don't tell you that you don't get paid even though your school will make millions off of you in the supposedly pro-capitalist free-market USA. They won't tell you that you'll get a scholarship that will barely cover your tuition and living costs and that your coach can rescind it at any time, not due to your excellence as a "student" but purely on how you do as an athlete. You won't know that you're are restricted from holding down a job that will give you the money to cover the living expenses your scholarship doesn't even though your classmates can get paid internships to help land them a job after they graduate while you work at Enterprise Rent-a-Car. Truth is, three years ago I would have agreed with you but now I'd rather take the indifference of CIS over the injustice of the NCAA. Just look at that stadium. That's a pro football arena not a post-secondary one. The idea of amateurism and old varsity are products of a bygone era.

Just talk to Adam, a former varsity athlete at the CIS level. He's actually one of the lucky ones to get out and actually have the chance to pursue things other than being at the mercy of his head coach 24/7, 365.

I agree that the NCAA is nothing but an unfunny joke of an institution. Much of what was said in the rant is true.
Not to mention there are much more recent examples of even more blatant abuse than those instances you cited.
Calipari (just an example) has been lobbying for years now to get the NCAA to allow universities to compensate players a stipend of around $100/week (actually less) so these kids have money to take a gf on a date, get the brakes fixed on their clunker.. whatever. Yes, the kids are abused, financially.

Having said that, every year, thousands of kids not good enough to go pro get scholarships and degrees their families could not have otherwise afforded. Those same kids get to also be BMOC for four years while earning that degree. MANY have a huge leg up when applying for a job just because of the cache they carry for having played for 'my' team (every team has tons of business-owning fans).

It needs revamped. There should be a fair and equitable way for kids WANTING an education to be able to afford to also play a 'money sport.'

If Calipari is correct though, that day will not come until the blue-blood universities say enough's enough and leave the NCAA and form, anew, a much better structured entity that better represents the interests of all involved..... rather than just itself.

/NCAA

Peeeeeekmm... lezbehonest for a second though, ncaa players get money, they are well taken care of... yes the NCAA is a crock because they pick and choose what they want to enforce and not enforce... i pray that sooner rather than later the big boy schools create their own division and just pay the kids a flat sum for anyone on scholarship
