Santa is white. Is it wrong?

It makes me curious. Does Santa play a larger role than Jesus during christmas in religious households as well?

seems like it to me, except maybe in the south. In my house, Christmas was about Christmas, and church was about Jesus. They had Jesus stuff at church and all, but other than reading the christmas story from the bible on christmas eve, Christmas was more about food and presents than Jesus or Santa.

If you think that there is plenty of evidence that people like Alexander the Great, Muhammed, Julius Caesar, etc existed, then there is plenty of evidence to show that Jesus existed. It is not a religious thing to say that he existed as a person.

There a not-insignificant percentage of people (I've heard in the 20-35% range) who study the classical age that think Jesus did not exist. By contrast, there is a negligible percentage for Alexander and Julius Ceasar. I agree it's not a religious thing, but the evidence does not rise to the level of "plenty".

According to wikipedia there is a very small percentage who think Jesus did not exist as a historical figure.

LOL. This reminds me of an argument I'd have with my mom every year when my kids were little. She'd want to get them what they wanted from Santa, and didn't seem to understand that for the most part, the gifts they were asking Santa for were gifts that had to come from Santa, otherwise, what's the point? They'd usually compartmentalize their lists - what they wanted from Santa, what from Mom & Dad, from Nana & Grandpa etc. My mom always felt her list was sort of the "stuff we don't really care about" stuff...
Not to say that they'd get everything they were asking for, and I always told them we had to PAY Santa for gifts so they knew they had to keep it reasonable...

That made it easy to explain why Santa couldn't just bring stuff to poor families, and was always asking for donations.

35% tells me academia is full of really smart but very strange people who need a psychiatrist more than a dissertation for tenure.

Same as any identity. You need to meet two conditions. One, you have to consider yourself part of that group. Two, other members of that group must consider you part of it. If either condition isn't met, you're not part of it.

You made it even more confusing. So if some crazy nutbar black guy for some reason thinks he is white then he is no black anymore? Come on man...

I am not sure why some people crying racism here. Same with Jesus. It makes no sense to make/imagine/portray Jesus or Santa as not white IMHO.

Why are you white? First of all it is stupid to bring up race as though white people own Santa and Jesus. The fact that she lied about her comments makes it even worse. So Megyn said she was just joking. Come on anyone who watches the clip knows that she wasn't joking. Nor is she right! Santa Claus is an imaginary person but St. Nichols was Greek which means that most likely he was olive skin and not what most people consider white. I believe that Coca Cola commercialized Santa as a big white jolly fat guy but since Santa isn't real there can be other depictions of Santa so there is no need to Megyn to claim he is white and we shouldn't be afraid of it. It seems as though Megyn is the person who is afraid of a black Santa or a brown Santa? Why is she so worried about Santa being depicted as a black Santa? Hmm..

So to Megyn who lives in a white world Santa is white but perhaps in another country Santa is brown/black/olive skin.

Of course it doesn't make sense for a white person because that is how they have always portrayed Santa and Jesus. No one knows what race Jesus was but many historians believe he was most likely brown/olive skinned just like the inhabitants in the area he was. However no one really knows and it seems silly to lay claim to it because there are no pictures (photos) of Christ.

There is more then one theory about Santa Claus origins. Dutch Sinterklaas, Scandinavian Odin, British Father Christmas, Russian Ded Moroz and so on. And even St.Nicholas could have been very white given that he was wearing all body covering robes and not getting his skin much exposure to sun.
