What happened to Fesenko?

But I thought Jerry was the evil coach that didn't like playing young players and Phil Johnson was the nice good coach that wanted to develop young players?

LOL...

Most people hated Fesenko but he has slowly changed peoples minds over the years. I have been a believer from his first games at the rocky mountain review.

I will repeat it again. The Jazz coaching staff puts offensive before defense. They always have. If somebody doesn't run the offense like they should they get benched. Even if they played great defense. And please don't argue that point because Fesenko has done exactly that since he has been here. This year he knows the plays better and he still gets benched. The coaching staff is blind to what impact he plays in the game. I am am blown away after the impact he has had this year and we still don't play him.

Fesenko like people said above boxes out 2 players and clogs the lane a lot.

The Jazz's problem is clogging the lane and rebounding. But those 2 things go hand in hand. If you don't clog the lane than you are running away from your man to help a slasher which leaves your man open for the offensive rebound.

Fesenko doesn't have to leave his man. He is so big he can clog the lane while staying close to his man. Nobody else on this team can do that.

Jefferson and Millsap are not boxing out like they should but they are also not in the best position to because they are playing help defense so much. Fesenko deserves more minutes and we should start a website because it seems most people agree with this. We need to send a message to the front office. Yes I am serious

I'd almost rather this thread was called, "What Happened to Evans." But yeah, I don't get why Fes is drawing DNP's. In fairness, Elson should have gotten minutes against San Antonio because he played reasonably well. And I sorta get Portland since their bigs are soft but quick.

But Elson should not be automatic. He should be a matchup player. The last two games, there were matchup situations which are more defensible. Most of the time, Fes should see regular minutes on the 2nd unit, Evans should be fit in wherever we can, and Elson should be the Break Glass In Emergency Guy.

Gotta agree with the Evans comment. I don't understand why that guy is not getting played. IMO, Fes is not a 20-25 minute guy, but I'd like to see him and Evans getting about 15 per game. If we don't develop these guys early, it will cost us in the long run.

Deron looks like he could use a rest, but we have no sub for him, unfortunately.

hey man I'm totally with you. This is absurd. This is a really serious situation that puzzles the hell out of me. these coaches should know better and the staff should too. I wonder if plays ask the coaches why isn't he playing. but hey i'm 100% to start a website and get the attention of the jazz front office. we could coach this team to so much more success

Oh, hey Kyrylo! Nice nickname. I totally can't tell you omitted a couple of letter from your name. :D

This is going to be an ever-growing problem of Fesenko deserving minutes but not getting them. He's the next iteration of Marcin Gortat.

Except Fes doesn't have D12 playing in front of him. Who is the best Center in the NBA right now.

I have been one that has thought in the past that Fes was a goof off and didn't deserve to get playing time. But this year after coming to camp in great shape, playing well in the preseason, knowing were he is supposed to be and doing a great job of clogging the lane, and being a major factor in a lot of comeback wins that he would be getting some love (playing time) from the coaches. It is mind boggling that he hasn't got of the bench for the most part in the last couple of games. Most of us here have seen him change the way the game is going just by standing in the lane. So I have to say it. I don't get it. He should be playing.

Here's the deal.

He had been hanging out at my pad and drinking A LOT lately. Dude can really put it down. Fes drinks more Goldschlager than anyone I've ever seen. That stuff is nasty, but he funnels it like water. He was late for practice the other day and drunk texted "hangin' at frankie's broke two goldies and licking them purley yellow flakes" (he meant pearly). Someone showed Jerry who apparently went ape **** on a basketball rack. So they send two D-League thugs over to pick him up (I live by the school). These two blokes walk in and look at Fes laying in the couch like it's gonna swallow him, and tell him he's got a contract to honor. Fes gave them his signature smug smile, held up a bottle of Peach Schnapps, and said "Sit, wait, Kyrylo have one more finish first. I have career drinking night right now. Sit drink." I don't know why the guy drinks this syrup garbage, but whatever.

Fes was all blotchy red faced and these two trainers or whatever they were, told him to get up or they'd drag him back to SLC kicking and screaming. Ahh hell fellas. I found out that's the wrong thing to say to a thick, 7 foot Ukrainian who'd been out of smokes for 45 minutes (ok, it was only 10, but you know Fes). All I could say was "Please, not in my house", but it was too late. Fes dropped his bottle, flew up, and swung his arms wide open while saying "what bitches". That did the trick. I guess a 7 footer getting up in your face sends the hard *** inside you somewhere deep. The two guys got all sheepish and one said "alright Fes, you know the drill. Let's just go." as he walked halfway out the front door. Fes was still pretty pissed. I don't know if it was because he had to leave or because he jumped up so fast. He was panting pretty hard from coming off the couch like that. Either way, he sorta pushed the other guy out the door, said "wait a minute", and let the entire contents of his stomach fly the second those two turned around. I swear the guy can puke on demand. He timed it like D-Will times the pick-and-roll. It could go without saying that puke cleaning duty sucked.

Anyway, he's in the doghouse now and not gonna play much for a while.

One more thing. Kyrylo wants to be called "Physiquo", not Fes. He thinks he's some James Bond man whore or something.

Bottoms up fellers.

I was going to leave this post alone because I thought it so over the top it was a spoof. Someone sent me a direct message inquiring as to the truth of the post so I thought I would respond. For the record none of what Franklin said is true.

It's an opinion. Having watched the games I have formed a different one.

Fes sometimes looks unsure of himself and lost out there but he never looks smaller than 7' 1" -- and that has a huge impact.

I'm not at all saying he's not getting better out there. But a defensive game changer is something that he is not quite up to par with right now. Yes, his presence in the game helps but more often than not he looks confused and out of position.

Elson is just straight up out playing Fess. How many times has Fess out right fouled a player instead of actually trying to play defense. I appreciate that he puts down a hard foul, but some of its just ridiculous, he could easily block or change a shot, but he just either doesnt have the mental or physical quickness to do so.

Elson is playing well lately, and we are winning. This is a bit of a trap though when the playoffs come rolling around.

The thing that concerns me is still Fes, and his role on the team. We still need a big man to compete with a team like the Lakers.
We need to develop Fes, or get rid of him and try someone else. Elson won't cut it against the Lakers. He's a nice role player, but against the elite
teams I don't see him making an impact. Fes, and yes probably in the best case scenario mind you, still could have an impact against a team like the Lakers.
He didn't play well last year against them, but wasn't given enough time all season either. 5 mins every game is better than nothing, but I'd prefer 10 and see where
we are after 15 games or so.

There's a reason that the bench players (including Fes and Elson) have been so effective; the biggest is the defense. None of these players has perfect focus, and Fesenko fouls way too much, but both Elson and Fesenko have regularly been part of comebacks and paint protection, despite the fouls. Fes needs to learn to dial down the defensive aggressiveness, not dial it up as you're implying. (Lackadaisical D has been more of AJ's problem, not the backup bigs.)

Oh and as for your "Elson is just straight out playing Fes", Elson doesn't have a huge advantage in any category other than fouls. Overfouling is not a insignificant stat, but it doesn't seem to have hurt the Jazz's second string produce big comebacks and build or maintain leads. It beats the heck out of the matador D that the bench players have been sometimes faced with overcoming as part of their keeping or getting the Jazz back in the game.
PP30: FE 7.16; KF 6.81
RP30: FE 6.74; KF 6.81
SP30: FE 0.69; KF 0.00
TO30: FE 1.10; KF 1.06
PF30: FE 3.85; KF 6.60

Again, such fouling frequency is too high, but it's no coincidence either that Price is second on the team in foul frequency yet is regarded as a defensive spark.

If the starters weren't so protective of their own foul trouble as often, then they wouldn't let so many easy baskets go. The bench doesn't have as much to lose foulwise. Fes has gotta get the fouls down, but again, it hasn't hurt the team; it's making the opponents earn their points. (KF has also had some stupid charges; gotta stop those, too.)

I appreciate that he puts down a hard foul, but some of its just ridiculous, he could easily block or change a shot, but he just either doesnt have the mental or physical quickness to do so.
Again, there's a reason that Elson and Fesenko are helping the second string to make such an impact--because they are doing just that--changing shots, and blocking them every once in a while. If you want a player to improve, then give him more than 7 or 8 minutes per available game. (Same goes for Hayward; the least that can be done is to put him in earlier than in the last 3 to 5 minutes when the game isn't in question.)

In the last 3 games, Fes's Bucks performance was unremarkable in 6 minutes of play. But against Indy, he logged 6 RBs in 9 minutes, and against L.A. 2-2 shooting in 5 minutes. An average of less than a foul across the 3 games. It's not like he hasn't produced.

Fesenko had some good moments last night, and some difficult moments. I saw a coupld of nice spins, but also a couple of times where he jogged up the court behend the man he was supposed to be covering, and the defense suffered. I think 15 minutes might be all he will ever be able to play consistently, he seems to lack endurance.

Fesenko is a very erratic player. It's difficult for a coach to put an inconsistant player in a game, not knowing whether he'll have one of his really BAD games; not exactly a coach's dream come true...
