Following potential 2014 draftees

You're fooling yourself if you think the Jazz aren't trying to build the franchise around players who will play in Utah longer term. There's a reason the Jazz go after low-key southerners like Al Jefferson, Paul Millsap, Derrick Favors, Marvin Williams, Jeremy Evans, etc., who don't demand being in the media spotlight or live that big-city lifestyle. Or, they get guys that need to prove themselves in the league and just need the gig.

The biggest challenge the Jazz will have once they land a franchise player is getting that player to stay in Utah for more than one extension. The Jazz were spoiled for years by having loyal superstars like John Stockton and Karl Malone. Now they're trying to find another who will embrace Utah almost as much as Utah embraces him. Remember, this is a max player we're talking about.

For reference to backup you argument, what superstars left the Jazz on their own free will?

Well, they traded DWill preemptively, in part because they thought he'd leave. Great move, btw. He didn't want to go to New Jersey, but he was looking to leave apparently. That's assuming you don't count Dominique Wilkins in the early 80s.

You can look at the rest of the league:
- Amare leaving Phoenix (New York)
- Carmello leaving Denver (New York)
- Bosh leaving Toronto (Miami)
- CP3 leaving New Orleans (LA)
- Shaq leaving Orlando (LA)
- D12 leaving Orlando (LA)

etc.

I don't think they would ever trade for anyone in the middle of a non rookie deal. For instance, Rondo, yes there is some danger in that. Do they factor in how a 19 year old rookie will like Utah though? Doubt it. They'll be here 8 years, that's a long freakin time. They will grow up, get married, have kids, etc all long before that second contract comes around. If they don't resign its probably due to not being able to get over the hump, like a lot of those on that list you provided.

Why do people think Wiggins wouldn't stay here long term? He said part of why he chose to play in ****ing Kansas was so he could focus on his game and school. I honestly don't think he'll seek out the bright lights of LA or NY. He didn't even have a big announcement for his college decision like everyone else.

If we draft Wiggins, I'm not worried about him leaving anymore than I am Jabari.

I'm not a theologian, but would it be a sin for Jabari to leave Utah?

This is a dumb argument. I don't care who the Jazz take this year: Smart, Exum, Wiggins, Parker, whoever. If in 7 years, the Jazz are contending, that player will resign with Utah. If not, he will leave. If LeBron could leave Cleveland and survive, anyone of those guys, Parker included, can leave and do just fine.

So... what is your position?

One extension is at least 7 years. And if the Jazz are contenders, they can keep anyone they want. Only Shaq and Lebron (who's best Robin the entire time he played for the Cavs was MO WILLIAMS) have left such teams.

Why would Jabari stay here long term?

He chose not to come to Utah to play college basketball because he preferred to play for the big name team. He is from Chicago that is a big city he probably like big cities. He has had the spot light on him for years and seems to like it. I think Jabari would rather play for Chicago, LA, NYC than the Jazz. Being Mormon is not a reason he would sign with the Jazz long term. He would be the only Mormon on any team in the NBA including the Jazz.

Wiggins seems much more low key laid back. I think Wiggins is just as likely to stay here long term as Jabari, maybe more likely.

Either way they are here through their rookie contract and then their first extension. No max contract player leaves before then. The only question is if they leave after their first extension. I think whether they leave then depends on what kind of talent we have around them. Players care about how much money they make, how successful their team is and how big apart of the team they are. They care about night life and the big city but not enough to switch teams. Deron would have been happy to stay if we put talent around him and had a chance at winning it all. When Deron left we were not a contender and we were not close to being a contender.

So you guys are all psychology professors with your ability to read other guys minds in front of a television?

Because we have a great team with him leading it. A city that would worship him. It's the home base for his faith. He'll be a LEGEND here from day one. The team is already mostly built, and just needs to plug him in. Add in a few key BENCH vets, and this team is ready to quickly move up the ladder.

Ok draft dudes and dudette (if there are any here) which 2 bigs would you rather see the jazz next year

Randle
Favors
Kanter
Monroe

Favors and kanter

What if Embiid was a choice?

That changes things.

Then probably favors and embiid just because we already have favors on a reasonable contract

I actually think embiid kanter would be awesome too though.

But i would rather have kanter favors jabari/wiggins over anything else
