Following potential 2014 draftees

OK guys, if we do somehow get Embiid, I assume we'll be starting him alongside Favors?

Then who's gonna guard stretch 4's?

It is not like the Jazz have anyone to guard the stretch 4's now but I certainly think Embiid has the mobility and athleticism to do that when need.
Right now, Embiid is the player I covet the most. I just think he is scratching his potential right now. I know the Jazz need more backcourt help but perhaps the Jazz can draft a shooter with the GS pick.

I think Favors and Embiid can both guard stretch 4's when they want. They are quite mobile. The best part would be that even though one would be on the perimeter, the other can still protect the basket. That'd be a nice luxury. Embiid would probably guard the stretch 4 though. He seems a little more mobile. Perhaps it's cause Favors has bulked up a little.

I'd be more worried about offensively. Even when Kanter and Favors are on the court there seems to be uncertainty on what each should be doing during different situations. Having Embiid and Favors both on the court could be counter-productive offensively w/ the main set as a Burke pnr. Although if Embiid becames the main hub for offense via post isolation, then it could work very well. Favors could be inside near the opposite elbow, and the other three could be camping on the perimeter. Plus, Favors could potentially get a lot of offensive rebounds within this set.

It's well documented by Locke that Favors struggled guarding quicker 4's even before he bulked up to play the 5 this year.

Better question

What stretch four is going to be able to guard favors or embiid?

Favors doesn't have any offense right now. With Embiid when he can perfect that elbow play it's a question of him being a step ahead of the help and being a good passer to drop it over to Favors for the finish.

We don't need to worry about that right now. If we somehow get Embiid then he won't be starting for at least 2 years and in year 3 he will be benched as soon as he has two no so good games. Marvin will still be on the team so I assume he'll guard the stretch 4's.

Actually favors offense has been quite good when an undersized player (like a stretch four) tries to guard him

I'd like to see that in person. And who you talking bout?

I have seen favors abuse smaller power forwards in the post many times this year.

Would love to see ryan anderson or steve novak or someone like thay guard favors in the post

Ryan Anderson and Steve Novak aren't the guys you have to go through to win a chip.
The contender group is more like Ibaka, Griffin, Aldridge, Davis, Love(in LA), Lee the way it looks right now.
Ibaka does a lot of spot up shooting to keep the lane clear but is also tough inside.
Griffin is expanding his game slowly but shows more range and more facets this year.
Aldridge is doing what Aldridge does.
Davis has a lot of stretch potential with his play.
Love does nothing but shoot the rock and score put backs with a couple hooks. So he definately fits the description. I don't remember if Favors was assigned on Love a couple nights ago.
Lee has a solid mid range game from the elbow. If he can stay on his feet he could contest a lof of attempts and take away the pass by not forcing the help to come over.
To be good against PFs in the playoffs Favors would need to outplay Aldridge Davis and Love definately and maybe in a year or 2 Ibaka and Griffin. We'll keep an eye on it I guess?

Love is the only one of those guys thay i consider a true stretch 4 and yes he would be a horrible matchup for favors or embiid..... of course his team isnt very good so i dont think you have to go through the wolves for a chip.

Also dirk would be another really tough matchup for a favors embiid lineup.

I think favors would do as good as any stretch 4 (like marvin) would against aldridge, griffin, ibaka, lee etc

I'd love Gordon in the 7-10 range. He'll bring us a long of length/energy/athleticism and could eventually be a terror defensively on the perimeter. He's a really gifted athlete, one of the top 3 in the draft (Wiggins/Embiid).

I'm glad I'm not alone. If we aren't getting a top 4 pick in the draft I'll be excited to watch Gordon play for us.

Believe me he's not staying in Minnesota. They don't get anything done and they'd need to turn Pekovic into a better rim protector and need to find a solution for first offensive option as Rubio isn't what they expected. Love is a 2nd option on offense, nowhere near best PF in the NBA. Spot up shooter who can't create without help. His low post is mediocre. That's why the Wolves are so bad right now. They can't find consistency offensively as they're too limited and their defense is mediocre too and rim protection is non existent with Love on the floor(68% around the rim against them)
You don't need to go through Dirk or Kobe. They're gone when the window of the Jazz eventually opens. Maybe Favors can get it done defensively. But offensively I'm a little worried how a Embiid/Favors frontcourt would perform. As of now btw Embiid is basically #1 on every scouting platform. This is going to be another exciting draft like last years.

I agree

Question for the lurking PKM:
Did Kentucky try to recruit Embiid? ANd if so, why didn't they succeed at it?

Dunno if UK recruited Embiid, but I think they believed at the time that they're more than covered at the 5 with Cauley-Stein coming back and Dakari who was the top Center recruit coming out of high school.

Not sure what happened to Dakari, but I think they expected a bit more from him than they're currently getting.
