The OFFICIAL don't draft Joel Embiid thread

what i want from Embiid is pretty simple.

alpha dog mentality - i still want him to want the ball more. i want him to have at least few jaw dropping stat lines. i don't mind 13pts 8reb 5blocks. but i want him to break out and give me that 30pts/18reb/7block type of game at least 2 times. give me a shaq line. just once or twice.

So you want him to not listen to his coach and just try to ball hog and ignore his very talented teammates..... basically piss off his teammates and coaches.

His coach preaches a team game and only allows embiid so many touches and minutes no matter what embiid wants so your wants are basically impossible for him to accomplish

Problem is that all the top picks are freshman which leaves pretty much no choice but to draft based on potential.

Some of the aren't brand new to basketball and have offensive game, though.

I'd love to believe y'all that he's Hakeem number 2 because y'all watch college ball while I find it mind-numbingly boring, but I went to youtube and the first video when you search for Joel Embiid is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZOTtf5ldtI

I'm confused as to how he looks better than Thabeet did at UConn.

Yeah maybe if you went off more than one highlight video you'd see how far off you are. If you watch Kansas play you'll find that they run many post isolations for Embiid, and he's pretty damn efficient on those.

We aren't talking about some abstract thing here. We are talking about a basketball player you can watch with your eyeballs and evaluate with your brain.

All Beantown knows about the dude is that he is from Africa and very tall.

-He actually only 7 ft. There are plenty of 7 footers in the league. Very tall would be someone like Yao, Thabeet, Gobert...etc

-He's only played the game of basketball for a couple of years

-He's only played competitive ball for what 6 months?

-Yes he has shown improvement but he's not dominating enough to select him over Parker and Wiggins.....in my opinion.

People are really getting that pissed off because I'm saying he's risky and would should take Parker and Wiggins before Embiid?

Give me a friggin break.

If Embiid busts I'm going to laugh my *** off. You guys are all acting like he's Wilt Chamberlain.

Every pick is risky until proven otherwise.

We're not acting like he's Wilt, you simply said that Thabeet was more developed than he was, which is a joke. He's not 'super raw' and I wouldn't consider him 'super skinny.' Learn new adjectives.

Plenty of 7 footers huh? If there are plenty of them, why don't you go ahead and tell us who they are?

I will get you started:

Timmy, The Gasol's, The Lopez brother, and the list drops off from there to Bynum, Oden, etc.

.....

Jim Calhoun called Thabeet “one of the most dominant players in the history of college basketball,” and it’s hard to disagree … Had Thabeet returned for his senior year, he likely would have broken the NCAA career-record for blocked shots (he left UConn 118 behind the all-time leader, Wojciech Mydra of Louisiana-Monroe)… Averaged 4.5 blocks per game as a junior, but altered about eight or nine more … Has impeccable timing and athleticism for someone 7-foot-3 … Is extremely mobile for someone his size. Often beats guards down the court … Jumpshot improved considerably in his three years at UConn. Towards the end of his junior year, Thabeet began to take—and make—12-15 foot jumpshots within the offense … Has a soft touch and a good stroke. With some polishing, there’s reason to believe Thabeet can be a consistent mid-range shooter at the next level … Shot just 63 percent from the free throw line, but shoots it with confidence and an excellent motion for a bigman and should be able to increase that number to the mid-to-high 70s throughout his career … Has a good nose for the ball on the boards … Tremendous lateral quickness for a player his size. Can guard smaller players out to the 3-point line … Is a bit stronger than he appears. Overall, Thabeet has a scary combination of size and athleticism that doesn’t come along often … Upside is tremendous.

Ok, fine. Where is the video of a different game in which he looks like Hakeem, then?

Anticipating that, here's a video of Ostertag looking like David Robinson.

Why do I have to find that? You said you didn't know how he looks better than Thabeet. Watch a Kansas game and you'll find out. Embiid is better in his freshman year than Thabeet ever was.

Your ignorance does not warrant my searching for youtube videos. I could show you him doing a compilation of the greatest basketball moves of all-time and you'd still not change your stance because you are stubborn. If I don't respond to you anymore, you'll know why.

Also, even if Embiid reaches his best case scenario(Ibaka or Bynum), isn't the whole purpose of the tank to get a number one option because we currently don't have one? How would drafting a complimentary player help the Jazz? I mean, even Dwight Howard has turned out to be simply a nice complimentary player, and we should spend our number one pick on the second coming of Serge Ibaka?

Ah, nothing quite like knocking down strawmen. I'm asking for proof of his offensive ability, and you'd think you'd be able to do that. Whether you believe that will sway me or not is not the point. Provide proof, then worry about that.

How come you only quote the second part? That was anecdotal at best.

*Placing on ignore*

Who ever said that Ibaka or Bynum were his best case scenario? Everything I have seen says that Hakeem is his best case scenario. Not only that, but an uninjured and motivated Bynum was on track to be Shaq. That is one hell of a player.

And what is with the Ibaka comparisons anyway? Ibaka is a stretch 4 now.

You must not be old enough to have seen Hakeem play. The man put up quadruple doubles.

Gobert.. Plays less than 5 minutes a game

Dwight Howard... Not 7 feet

NIkola Vucecic....

Chris Kaman.... Again, does not play

Tim Duncan...

Jason Smith... lol

Dirk....

Lets hear about seven footers who play like Tim Duncan, or have the athletic ability that Embiid has.

All you did was bold stuff about his upside and potential, wish does nothing to prove how he's more 'polished.'

That blurb is also propaganda.

A hall of fame coach called him "one of the most dominating players in NCAA history".....

He was one season away from the all time leader in blocked shots in college basketball....

How dumb and blind are you?....Thabeet was supposed to be the next great big man in the NBA.

Haha I was responding to your statement that said this?

So now that I shut you down you want to change the topic? All these players are athletes and have amazing skill....... that's why they are in the NBA. Most of them were also dominant in the NCAA or European leagues.
