What's new

What does LeBron need to do to surpass Jordan?

He needs to stop the flop. ***** *** move.

what are you talking about? it's an art.

If it is an art it is the equivalent of a chromosomally challenged kindergartener fingerpainting in his own ****.

Not a fan of the flop either. Id also dvocate getting rid of the offense foul rule as it is, all together too.

But how can you blame today's players? If the refs call the games this way, then they have to play the game or lose. Every little possession counts.

It didn't just happen overnight. It developed into this. Everyone loves Jordan so much but he helped create this environment. He showed people what you could do if you are selfish. If you win then you are great. If you dont and try that, then you are a chucker. Its just a bunch of people trying to be like Mike. Or like Kobe, who also likes to be like Mike.

Jordan was also the recipient of a lot of bail out generous calls. He lived at the line. He'd run into the lane, jump backwards and throw the ball over his head, and get the call because the defender dared defend the basket. It was way more ridiculous back then. Refs were much more likely to be on the take too.

Superstars are always going to get more calls, they always have. That is nothing new. Flopping to get a fake call is (relatively) new, at least at this level and amount. It has nothing to do with what went before them. It has everything to do with exploiting a faulty system to gain an unfair advantage. I think flopping should be handled far more harshly, or just ignored completely. Let him fall flat on his *** on his own while the other team gets a 5 on 4. In fact, that would be a great way to spice up the game and punish flopping. Institute a penalty box and for every called flop, by replay even, that player is in the penalty box for 2 minutes of game time with no subs allowed. 3 times in the penalty box in a game = ejection with no sub allowed. See how far the Heat (or anyone) gets playing 4 on 5. I guarantee it would stop really fast.

sorta agree, but you can't blame jordan for being great. i just can't say a player was selfish when he was shooting 50%+ in his prime. take out wizards stunt jordan was career 51fg% shooter. jordan was simply that good. hell he even avg 32.5/8/8 in a season basically playing a point.

but you can say kobe was selfish. just look at his mediocre shooting %. it's because he took so many bad shots. AI was selfish too. he was shooting low 40s. took way too many bad shots.

it just too bad many players wanna be like mike. there is only one MJ.

as far as flopping goes - i think it's a chicken sh1!#t. yes, too many damn people do it and i hate it. there aren't many tough guys who play the right way anymore. and this is one of the reason NBA is taking a lot of heat.

So a guy in our stake bball tourney was flopping all over the place last weekend. It was cracking me up. Someone would brush by him and he would throw his arms out like he had just taken a .44 to the gut in an old western, yelp like a kicked dog, and fall on the ground. It was the game before our game, so I just caught the end of the 2nd half, and at first I thought he was faking it to be funny, which it was, but then he got kicked for swearing at the ref for not calling one of his flops and then stormed out. What a douche.

It's really hard to convince myself that the league is not rigged when a team up 2 decides that LeBron with single coverage is somehow a smaller risk than say Mario Chalmers. I know Mark Jackson is dumb as a post, but no one can be this dumb and not be a ward of state. What risk assessment could you have possibly run and decided that the ideal situation is LeBron taking a shot with only a single, second-rate defender on him?

Nice compilation. I somehow found out today why I've got such a weird shot selection when playing ball.
Oh and this isn't Alec Burks...

Wow. Has there been anyone better at using the backboard and english to make impossible shots go in? Master of the reverse.

...he'll top Jordan in most statistical categories....won't catch Karl Malone or Stockton in any of the key categories (total points, assists and steals)....and definitely won't catch Jordan in NBA championships....even with the gift one he got last year from the Spurs!

Carolina, what is it you don't like about LeBron other than the fact that he plays in the 21st century and that you've probably never seen him play in a basketball game?

Is the efficient shooting? The fact that he's a willing and skilled passer? That he comes to play every night? That he works hard and improves his game each summer? That he hits the boards? That he defends every position? That he's a winner? That he doesn't get in trouble off the court?

A lot of the hate for Lebron comes from the decision. Pretty stupid and irrational if you ask me. It was a small error in judgment that hurt no one, and in fact helped a kids charity. That stuff was way over blown.

Like everything you just said, he doesn't have any faults or weaknesses, and by all accounts seems to be a good guy. Its amazing he isnt appreciated more.
